The information from the embassy/consulate is correct, Thailand does not recognizes them so it doesn't qualify for a visa.

However Hull in the UK did issue one.. I asked them about it via email and they then clammed up.

LivinLOS, how do you know? The non-O visa put into the passport does not indicate the reason for which it was issued. This leaves the question what the applicant wrote on the application in answer to the question "Purpose of trip?".

Until about a year ago the non-O visa, ie the non-immigrant visa for other purposes, for purposes for which no other category of non-immigrant visa exists, was available also for visiting friends in Thailand, regardless of the gender of the friends or whether the applicant had a registered civil partnership with a same-sex person in Thailand.

Before the new rules the old application form did mention civil partnerships, i got a visa based on my civil partnership from Hull, i had to submit my certificate plus a copy of the work permit from my partner.

Buy a sh--t-hot condo for 10+M baht and get an investment visa

AFAIK this (investment through property) has not been a possibility for more than 10 years.

That is an extension of stay and continues to be available. What is not available to new investors is the 3 million baht version.

This is academic, as I have an extension of stay based on retirement, but if I wasn't over 50, are you

saying that I could have had an extension of stay based on my condo costing THB10m+?

Not if you already have the condo and didn't arrange the connection of that condo to immigration privileges as part of the purchasing process. Condos used for this "investment" purpose also must meet specific criteria ... not ALL 10 million baht condos.

This is the current requirement for section 2.5 one year extension of stay for 10 million investment - this is a program of immigration office now.

B. In case of an investment of not less than 10 million baht.
(1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM)
(2) Proof of money transfer to Thailand of not less than 10 million
baht.
(3) Proof of investment to purchase or rent for a period not less
than 3 years of unit in a condominium from an agency or
government agency concerned at a price of not less than 10
million baht.
(4) Proof of investment in the form of a fixed deposit of not less
than 10 million baht with a bank registered in Thailand with Thai
shareholders comprising more than 50% of its shareholders.
(5) Proof of investment to purchase government or state enterprise
bonds with a value of not less than 10 million baht or
(6) Proof of combined investments as set out in clauses (3),(4)
Or (5) having a total value of not less than 10 million baht.

One of my employees who handles visas in my company said that she processed a Non-O for the Japanese female partner of a foreign woman working in Thailand. Not quite the same as marrying a Thai and getting a Non-O, but I have a feeling it's all case-by-case.

A visa possibly at a honorary consulate far from here. But an extension of stay from immigration it would never happen.

It was accepted, extended, etc., and done here in Thailand at Chaeng Wattana. The women needed their marriage certificate from abroad translated into Thai.

You didn't mention they were married before. That is lot different than partner.

The rules just say marriage so it is possible.

Joe, a Non-O is a marriage visa.

No one gets a Non-O without being married.

This forum is about getting a Non-O.

A non O can be issued for many reasons not just marriage to a Thai.

In this case case it was an extension as a dependent of a person having an extension of stay for working here. The rules state that a spouse qualifies for a dependent extension and a marriage certificate is needed as proof.

Note the non immigrant O visa is not a marriage visa (there is no such thing) but it is for "other" reasons than Business/Education/Diplomatic/Media that have specific category.

Your statement of "the Japanese female partner of a foreign woman working in Thailand" is very different than them being legally married with supporting paperwork.

I think the majority of Thai embassies and consulates accept visa applications by mail.

Mailing in for a visa while still here would be illegal.

I have received several visas requested by mail in the states but I was present in the states and had to submit some supporting documentation to get those visas.
