danstarr Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 My Thai work colleague has been sharing some interesting nicknames that Thais apparently use to refer to English teams which are usually based on club badges. There's a website in Thai that lists them but the thread seems to have disappeared. They are quite logical.. For example: Arsenal - Burng yai (big gun) or burng dtek (broken gun) when they lose. Tottenham - golden spike chicken Charlton - hero sword Coventry - elephant stomp Crystal Palace - glass castle Leeds - golden peacock Derby - steel (metal?) ram. Man City - blue boat (or sinking boat when they lose) Middlesboro - red lion Nottingham Forest - old forest Sunderland - battleship West Ham - hammer Real Madrid - white king England is 'sinto cam ram' which means 'lion roar'. Cameroon - ghost leader South Korea - white ginseng Holland - turbine orange Germany - iron eagle or 'beer'. Columbia - cocaine France - perfume Denmark - dairy cattle Nigeria - emerald eagle Being an AFC Bournemouth fan, I guess we'll have to get exposure in the Premier League before we get a nickname. If anyone can add or elaborate on these it'd be great. Can't remember Liverpool's but it's something like 'golden bird' or 'injured bird' when they lose.
stoneyboy Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I would have thought they would have referred to Tottenham as The Cocks.
