Has anyone seen a place that sells small wand metal detectors? Sort of like they use in the airports. I need one for finding metal in wood before I cut it.

In the UK, admittedly not here, I used to use the sort of electrical current testing device that folks use to trace water and electrical cables behind plastered, or stud, walls--perfectly good enough for finding old nails in old timber. It was a very small hand held unit.

Where you buy--I don't know, but I guess a good tool supply shop.

If you can't find one then you can use a Neodymium magnet on a thread and move it around the area of interest. The magnet will of course be drawn toward any iron screws/nails. The magnet in an old hard drive for the head actuator is quite powerful and can use that. There are android metal detector apps but have not found them sensitive enough for locating small objects. Could try homepro or global house but considering most houses in Thailand are concrete may not be a popular item. Also, if you have an Amorn in your area could try them.
