What makes a good beach?

Featured Replies

I see lots of, Nai Harn is best, Chalong is best, Layan is Best, Patong is worst.

Ok so what makes a good beach?

For me,

not to wide

shelter from the sun without renting a beach chair

food availabe without a long walk or crossing a street

If food available, not to expensive

not to many sun chairs for rent ( ie i hate 2-3 chairs deep) example Surin

Space availabe for laying out ur chair without being hassled

area set aside for swiming vs jet skies

swimable most of the year

parking for cars and motorcycles

Other........

So lets hear which is the best. I withhold my opinion for the time being.

No Jetskiis and no parachute/paraglider ropes taking the heads off of people going into the water.

I guess this is leading up to your preference for Kamala.

Crystal clear water. No security issues, no touts, no scammers.

in a way, but just curious about what others look for in a beach. If u have other things i would be interested in hearing them?

What beaches full fill the above criteria?

Layan is great Beach but nowhere to live affordable nearby

as far as surf an clear water. the two cant go together here :-)

on shore breeze brings the surf but muddies up the water

Not here in Phuket.. Thinking of relocation once again. Creese, Croatia, Spain, Colombia..

A beach like this Thai-beach...

It always amazes me how people talk about coming to Phuket for the surfing here.

Plenty of places in Indonesia leave Phuket for dead surf wise and price wise yet the "surfers" come to Phuket!!!

Makes one think.

Safe swimming and not having to worry about having to jump in and risk my own life while on holiday like down at Kata beach 18 months back...there and Karon are bloody death traps and claimed many lives over the years..two weeks back four in a week!

One important element in Thailand, is finding a beach without sandfleas. My last visit to Koh Samet, I got eaten alive. I thought it was mosquitoes; but no - it's almost invisible

sand fleas. I personally do like Cha-Am beach, I'll use that in future.

a good beach is one where farang with bald heads dont take their rotweiler's for walkies off or the lead like in niharn

In Phuket, any location where the fecal coliform count is less than 100 per 100ml as that is the international standard for water contact recreation.

Oh...and if you hadn't already guessed, not a single one of the beaches on the west coast of the Island meets this standard. Not even in low season.

At least we can always rule out Kamala.

I would gues Mai Khao beach.

A good beach to me..

Is Clean, quiet and picturesque..., just Chillin

As would the rest of the people on this planet.

Clean beach and water, no jet skis, banana towing or parsailing operations.

I don't mind the chair rentals as long as they don't insist they own the beach.

I like to bring my own beverages and fruit snacks.

That pic looks great, I do like Kata Noi when I am on Phuket.

I would gues Mai Khao beach.

Spot on, but for Chrissake don't tell anyone. wink.png

I promise, I won't! Not that few thousands of people would make any difference :)
