Hello,

Apologies if this has been asked before - I tried a number of searches and read through threads and couldn't find anything similar.

I had a 1 year multiple entry ED visa, I studied Thai language for a year. The visa has now lapsed and I'm considering either continuing my Thai language studies at another school or perhaps studying Muay Thai and just paying to study Thai separately. The reason being is that I'll always study Thai as I enjoy it, I enjoy Muay Thai too but sometimes get lazy. With an education visa I'll of course need to attend regularly so it in a way 'forces' me to train even if I'm feeling like skipping it!

My questions are as follows:

1. I know that had I chosen to extend my previous visa I would have been tested at the immigration department and had to provide proof of attendance from the school. If I plan to enrol at a new school will I be required to complete a test and will I need to take my record of attendance from my previous school.

2. I realise to actually apply for the visa I will need to go outside the country and I'm considering a trip back to the UK to visit family. Can applications still be made in Hull?

Thanks for your help.

We have seen members' reports since last week indicating that honorary consulates in the UK have been taken on a shorter leash. Therefore, no prediction can be made at the regarding what types of visa are available at what consulate.

Ah ok, it's not a huge issue - I guess I can just call them and see. I'm planning to visit London too so I'll just have to fit it in while I'm there. Thank you for your response.

Does anyone have any idea about my first question?

Thanks

Applications can be made in Hull, but for some time the rule is a single only regarding ED-visas while now other multiple non-immigrant visas need to be approved by the embassy.

That's great - thanks Mario.

Would be great if anyone had any idea on the first question.

Testing depends on the immirgation office you use, but this would be your first extension. Yes, they would like to see some paperwork from the school that you are really studying. But could be only from the new school as it is your first extension. As always, different imirgaiton offices have slightly different interpretations of the rule.

There is no problem in trying anyway.

Thanks Mario - does this count as an extension as my ED visa for the Thai Language school has expired and I plan to completely start over and apply for a new ED visa with support from the Muay Thai school.

If you go abroad and apply for an ED-visa it is not an extension but a new visa entry.

When on a valid permisison to stay, you cna apply for an extension in Thailand, with paperwork from the school.

Exactly what I needed to know, assuming the Muay Thai school can allow me to study for more than one year that is what I'll do next year. This year it's no big deal as I need to go back to the UK anyway.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. Much appreciated.

Maybe the guys will come up with a entertaining means of "testing" your progress in Muay Thai ! smile.png

I was thinking about that one! I've heard in some schools they come and observe (although this was outside Bangkok). Either way it's no issue as I plan to actually attend rather than just getting the visa and not bothering going.
