How much is the sleeper train and can you book online? the only issue is we would be taking the overnight bus from phuket to bangkok so that means hanging about in the day for the sleeper train...

Why did you prefer the sleeper train out of curiosity? The thing that puts me off flying is how much of a pain it is getting to airports and usually costs a lot on top of the airfare aswell it all ends up being a lot.

No online booking. You can buy tickets in advance at any train station.

I like sleeper because I can sleep. I can't do it sitting in a bus seat. I like trains also because I can get up and walk around.

You could look into taking a train from Hat Yai to Bangkok.
