nothing illegal about owning a business that makes money. now, if he is dancing that is an entirely different story.

I think the point being made here is:

Having an ownership interest in some company in Thailand that operates a money-making business doesn't, in and of itself, require a work permit AFAIK...

This is correct. Whether he owns 0.01% of the total shares or 49% (the maximum he can hold), he does not need a work permit for that. A lot of foreigners own shares in Thai companies, mostly bought on the stock market.

Is that Manura or Maruna ?

He can sit here all night drinking telling everyone it's his bar as long as he doesn't do anything himself ,then take the money home nothing anyone can do .

Key to it is letting the staff do all the work and look like a customer

I know lots of people who have been doing it for years .

Mind ya own business is my advice to u .

I think you should mind your own business. Thai immigration is well competent enough to deal with all that it needs to.
