BoT to keep close eye on US’s quantitative easing until year end

BANGKOK, 18 August 2013 (NNT) – Bank of Thailand (BoT) is advising all sides to keep an eye on the US’s quantitative easing which could have an impact on the Thai economy.

BoT Governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul mentioned about the economic situation in Thailand for the rest of 2013, saying there are no risk factors that Thailand should be worried about. However, he said all sectors should keep a watchful eye on the US’s economic measures, especially the quantitative easing or QE measures which could have a slight impact on the Thai economy, but not enough to sabotage it.

He also denied commending on the upcoming Monetary Policy Committee meeting which will be held on August 21st, adding that it is in the 7-day period prior to the meeting as anything should not be said.

Quantitative easing is an unconventional monetary policy used by the US’s central bank to stimulate its economy when the standard monetary policy has become ineffective.

Quantitative easing is another word for devaluation. If you have sold goods to the USA and hold US Dollars in a Thai bank account the value of those dollars has (over the last 5 years ) reduced by 27 % . It is a fraudulent way to reduce debt. It causes inflation.
