Why Are They Re-Paving Soi Sai Yuan in Nai Harn?

The road is in great shape compared to many others in Nai Harn/Rawai. The first thing I thought and has been repeated by many of the Thai locals: corruption!

I was wondering this myself. It did have a few potholes here and there, but it wasn't that bad. I made me think about when this issue came up once back home once. It was due to regularly scheduled maintenance based to expected lifespan of the road surface, so even if it was fine, it got repaved. I can't hardly believe that would ever be the case here though. I am not enjoying cleaning all the tar covered rocks off my bike every time I get home.

Local area government have to spend their allocated budgets this year or receive less the following year.

You'll find all areas doing something similar.

Didn't they just put in a sewer type system along the road this April, and maybe there working on the small flooding problems that are all over Sai Yuan road. I said Maybe....

Well, if they would not do it people would next year start complaining about lack of preventive maintenance.

I just got back from a ride around and they are doing a good job it seems. They just were paving the Ya Nui road, which was pretty bad in spots.

Looks like they are continuing all the way to Kata. Excellent, there are a few very slippery corners there, and coming down from the hill direction Kata the road surface is very bad.

I love how the geniuses are now tearing up the road and installing pipes underneath the new tarmac right by M and M's and a few other places. Geniuses!

That's not a Thai thing. See that all over the world. Piss Poor Planning.

Two years ago, the old Kamala to Patong road (Kamala side) was fitted with a new storm drain system. It took them 3 months to finish. It took another month to fix all the mistakes. Now, we are told, they will install a newer system on the same road. If its anything like the disaster that took place on the Soi with Ohlala, it will be a six month cluster <deleted>. PPP

Edit: During the high season....BRILLIANT

Do you expect them to install a storm drain system during the monsoon season? Although there hasn't been that much rain it seems so far this monsoon season.

I expect them to install a proper system the first time

LOL! I definitely will agree with that. But then the local government couldn't skim as much off of the construction budget. This way they get a double dip!
