Honest Question: How is Trump a 'threat to Democracy'?
Then I suggest you change your "honest question" to "genuine question." At least we could read some honesty into that and respond accordingly. It's your association of "honesty" to the mis-characterization of a crook that some of us have problems with. To put i mildly. -

Baht becoming ridiculously strong
I would explain that this way: The two currencies actually were in tandem from Jan 2020 to July 2021. However, the Euro then went on a deep nosedive, the Euro actually also fell against the Baht, just not as much. Against the Baht the Euro recovered much more quickly, which makes sense as Thailand's currency is much weaker than the USD, not as a snapshot but as a whole I mean. However, since July there has been a dichotomy, where the Euro rose against the USD but fell against the Baht. I wonder if that can be explained by the Thai people putting in place a new government, expecting more tourism from visa changes and things like this. But it is interesting. https://in.marketscreener.com/quote/currency/EURO-THAI-BAHT-EUR-THB-88940/graphics-comparison/ Generally though, since the Euro fell harder against the USD, it is presumably normal that it would rebound a bit harder against the USD. -

Thai police shut down 21 villas on Koh Samui, foreigners evicted
I have seen illegal projects like that all over Thailand. Everybody around can see them, but they all know someone highly placed is involved. And they all know it doesn't help and can be very dangerous to complain to the government officials. For instance, there are villas on the beach at Dolphin Bay, south of Hua Hin. Everybody knows that you can not build on the beach. But everybody knows the people involved are far too high placed to bother about the law. ...T.I.T. -

If passed, how likely is global income tax in 2025? Or is 2026 more likely?
Just my opinion: 1. Yes, it will eventually pass, but not in 2024 2. If passed in 2025, my guess is that it would go into effect for tax year 2026 or later- 1

Does anyone here miss serious writing? Instead of simple posting on the Farang Pub?
I have learned, over the years, that my readership on the TV Farang Pub do appreciate a bit of ambiguity, from time to time, whenever I am able to offer it up. And, as you point out, in any given sentence or utterance, three meanings are better than just two, or one. -

Recommended gold shops in khon kaen?
My Thai Mrs has a necklace that she's had since age 18. Whenever she has spare cash it gets weighed in and a more expensive one purchased. Since we've been together I've upgraded it each birthday. She's content with 20,000 baht! She says all gold shops are the same. In our town we have two or three in each adjacent street! She doesn't seem to fear being sold underweight or fake gold. She's never heard of that happening. -

Thailand to borrow 2.59 trillion baht for 2025 budget
The Government of Thailand announced a borrowing plan of 2.59 trillion baht for the 2025 fiscal year, assuring that this will not hinder the private sector’s fundraising efforts, a Ministry of Finance official stated yesterday. Jindarat Viriyataveekul, public debt adviser at the ministry, said the debt plan, which begins on October 1, should not cause concern in the markets. She explained that approximately 1.1 trillion baht (US$33 billion) would be new borrowing primarily to cover the budget deficit, with the remainder designated for refinancing and restructuring existing debt. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s administration is increasing the budget for the 2025 fiscal year to 3.75 trillion baht (US$113 billion), a 7% rise from 2024, aimed at stimulating economic growth. Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy is grappling with near-record-high household debt, weak exports, and a manufacturing sector under pressure from inexpensive imports, mainly from China. The 2025 borrowing strategy includes 1.25 trillion baht (US$38 billion) in sovereign bonds, 140 billion baht (US$4 billion) through bond switching, 520 billion baht (US$16 billion) in Treasury bills, and 120 billion baht (US$3.6 billion) in savings bonds. The rest may be covered by promissory notes and term loans. Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira noted that public debt is projected to reach 66% of gross domestic product (GDP) by the end of September next year, assuming a 3% economic growth rate. This figure remains below the 70% legal ceiling but is an increase from 63.7% at the end of July 2024, Pichai said. “Officials hope to issue dollar-denominated bonds as part of the 2025 borrowing programme,” A plan to issue the first dollar-denominated debt in two decades earlier this year was abandoned due to unfavourable market conditions. Officials have forecast revenue of 2.88 trillion baht (US$87 billion) for the new fiscal year, resulting in a budget deficit of 865 billion baht (US$26 billion). Despite the higher deficit, 908 billion baht (US$27.4 billion) is allocated for investment, marking a 27.9% increase from the 2024 fiscal year, Pichai said. “152.7 billion baht (US$4.696 billion) of the budget is earmarked for the second phase of the digital wallet consumption stimulus handout.” The first phase, costing about 145 billion baht (US$4.4 billion), starts next week, reported Bangkok Post. Additionally, another 132 billion baht (US$4 billion) for the programme is expected to be sourced from the management of other budgets, including the central budget and unused funds from various agencies.
