Abhisit ready for meeting on reform

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The opposition Democrat Party is ready to hold talks with the prime minister's representative on political reform, party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said yesterday.

"I'm ready to talk with Banharn [silpa-archa] if he contacts me. I will tell him the root cause of the problems which, in fact, have come from the government itself. And the government has to end the conflicts," Abhisit said.

Former PM and chief adviser of Chart Thai Pattana Party Banharn Silpa-archa was assigned by Yingluck Shinnawatra on Sunday to be responsible for the national reform council. He will now serve as the coordinator of the national reform initiative, responsible for pushing for the creation of a roadmap for politics, economy and society.

Banharn earlier said he will be meeting leaders of the opposition Democrat Party, yellow-shirt co-leader Sondhi Limthongkul as well as senior public figures such as Prawase Wasi to brief them on the reform roadmap when he returns from a trip to China on September 6.

However, Abhisit said the government lacks sincerity in tackling reform because it has allowed corruption and divisions to take place in society. Moreover, it has failed to listen to the opinions of civic groups but instead opted to listen to old politicians.

Good for Abhisit, their holding a reform/reconciliation-council with the dinosaurs whom PTP claim to be against is a nonsense, and he's willing to say this to people like the slippery-eel ! rolleyes.gif

Absurd muppetry. It's time to accept, like it or not, that Clan Shinawat will be ruling Thailand for the next few generations, there is no other alternative. If anybody other than Thaksin's nominee and puppet wins a general election there will be hell to pay. Think about it. Non redshirt candidate actually wins the next general election. Do the red shirts accept this? What will Thaksin tell them? Its OK we lost fair and square, suck it up and give them a chance. No, there will be well funded havoc until the chosen one takes the reigns again.

Let's all pray for Khun T's health and long life, after all this cult of personality has been carefully cultivated around him only, in my opinion his biggest mistake as regards their clan's goal. Without Thaksin this whole "grassroots movement" will cease to be. Food for thought.

Now the bog question is will Banharn be willing to meet with Abhist now that Abhist has made it known that he is only willing to talk about reform not about how the PTPredshirts can best shove their corruption down the throat of the Thai population.

The red shirts will not be a threat in two years the Thai population is getting tired of them. In two years their neighbors will shut them up. They will not be a threat. All ready they are losing support in traditional red shirt territory the only by election they have one is in Chiang Mai home of the wannabe dynasty Shinawarta mafia. Even in their own ranks they are starting to drift apart. Look at the Democrat rally in Yasothon where the red shirts tried to disrupt it with loud noise and throwing things. There were red shirts sitting on the side lines refusing to take part in the typical low life red shirt action. People are tired of being bullied by jost a few and will slap them silly if they get out of hand when the next election comes around. The PTP will find them selves relying on the amount of people they can bribe and the dumb ones who will believe what ever they come up with in spite of their dismal record.

The Democrat candidate recently won the Don Mueng election- it was accepted, no problems. I am not sure what you base your comment on given that the last time the Democrats won an election was over 20 years ago!

Don't be so glum. The Democrats are the primary opposition party and have their baggage arising from corruption and a close relationship with the army. A great many people who are opposed to the PTP find the Democrats just as repugnant.

Sooner or later, a real opposition party will arise and it will most likely be comprised of Democrats and PTP members who want real change and an end to corruption. The issues with Thaksin are just a blip in the establishment of responsible government. Change will come, and it may be delayed until the country has an historical event in a the next few years...,.,

As long as Thaksin has billions to spend, many Thais will kiss his ass. Why you think he is in such a hurry for the contract with K-Water to be signed. This will create huge kick-backs for him.

There will only be change in Thailand when the Thais say: "We don't need your money we want what is best for this country". The Thais have to do it. No anti corruption office in Thailand can be taken serious and can really stop corruption. It might take a long long time before the mindset of the people has changed. In the meantime it will be Thaksin buying everything and everybody he needs.

Money talks in LOS and and it won't change anytime soon.

Thaksin is making a deal with the biggest enemy of the Red shirts, the army, as we speak.

Don't think you have been here very long. I would like to say that it makes little difference who is in power however, the Shiniwatra's changed that perception . Thaksin would and by proxy through the bimbo sister is trying his hardest to turn this country into his own personal little family fifedoom. They are truly the worst of the worst.

Regardless of which political group is in power, unless radical changes are made within the manipulated culture of this land it will just be more of the same. This country is a train crash just waiting to happen.
