I was going to suggest putting something on youtube as theres more chance of something going viral from youtube. but i went to youtube and put in "jet ski scams phuket" and lots of people have already post clips about the jet ski scams there. you can click on this link and look http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=jet+skis+phuket&oq=jet+skis+phuket&gs_l=youtube.12...266.4828.0.7485.15.7.0.1.1.0.516.2657.2-2j2j2j1.7.0...0.0...1ac.1.11.youtube.TLy-lQlshng or if that doesn't work, go to www.youtube.com and do a search the same as i did

Why don't a few expats/tourists get down to the consulate and show support for Larry. I'm not just talking about Aussies but all nationalities as his cause effects all. No need for placards with anti Thai slogans or anti scam slogans a simple "We support Larry." The media would know what is behind it and can report as they see fit and people could take a few pics and post on one of the current face book pages or send them into various international media outlets.

Because the armed taxi mafia camped outside the resort where the Australian Consulate resides might not be impressed, and they have no qualms about pulling a weapon. Trust me on this.

With all the warnings any idiotic foreigner who rents a jetski in Thailand gets everything they deserve. I have absolutely no sympathy for these morons whatsoever. If the Australian foreign affairs department issues warnings at all exit points and informs all travel agents to advise Thailand bound tourists, post warnings in all Australian in flight magazines then we would have no jetski operators left in Thailand. If every country did the same we would all be better off. The hon consul (who went way beyond his duty) can only blame the Australian dept foreign affairs for this incident happening. If they did their job properly there would be no Australians renting jetskis in the first place. RENT AT YOUR OWN RISK AND DON'T CALL US advisories would be a good start. If there are any foreign nationals caught in a jetski scam then the blame truly lays on the that country's department of foreign affairs for not doing an effective enough advisory on the issue.

lmao, im sorry what warnings does your country post about this?

Where would the average non internet savvy first travel find this information you keep ranting on about?

And when did an outsider like your self speak on behalf of Australians?

Maybe because i am..... Australian? As far as warnings i think i suggested in flight mags on Qantas, Jetstar etc? I think that the "average non internet savvy jetski renter" would be as rare as hens teeth. as far as warnings are concerned the Thai's cant even sign post an exit into a highway service center well enough to see at night time... and this MAKES them money.

"Trust me on this." - I trust no one on Phuket, farang or Thai. :) :)

Nice to see you have completely shifted the blame away from Thailand and completely exonerated them for these scams. Those dam_n Farangs again giving Thailand a poor image.

Chooka. If you were at the shark tank at the marine park and you saw a child jump in and get eaten. Who would you blame? The sharks, the child, the parents of the child for not restraining him or the park? You still believe in the fantasy that you can rid a third world culture of corruption where the minimum wage is the equivalent of two coffees at Starbucks. A culture where the deputy prime minister publicly announces that extorting bribes is okay. I live and work in Thailand and i love the place and it's people. The Dept of Foreign affairs has a duty to inform all Australian citizens of all hazards they may face in certain countries. They pay millions to consulate staff to collect and assess this information with Australian tax payer funds.

Last time I looked sharks aren't people and subject to laws.

Look on the DFAT website, they DO warn aussies. But most aussies don't bother reading those things. Much better, as someone else suggested, is to have the pilot on all planes going to Thailand to make an announcement not to rent jet skis.

Or even better, when you are on the plane and filling out the customs declaration they also give you a slip of paper listing common scams.

But really, for you to try and make this the same as a child going into a shark tank is just....well....crazy.

Fantastic idea with the pilots. Customs declaration even better idea. Apologies for the shark tank analogy. Maybe should have used lambs to the slaughter.

Incredible damage claim since jet skis are actaully designed to be submergabel and its an intentional function of them to do so. In competitions they dive underwater with them all the time.

"In competitions they dive underwater with them all the time." - unfortunately, the only jet-ski "competition" here is the one that's all about diving into your bank account. :)

Perhaps the public needs to be alerted to the attitude of Siriporn's family hotel via tripadvisor. I'm sure many potential booking would not look favourably upon this threat handed down by this offical which happens to own a hotel.

I hinted to something similar in a previous post.

I have already sent a short and sharp email to them, via their website, stating why I will not be recommending their hotel to anyone. :)

I think it's called, karma. :)

Reading this kind of thing makes me so angry, and gives us a good insight into the appalling Thai attitude is ! 'We will keep merrily colluding to rip off foreigners for as much as we possibly can, there is nothing you can do and you should just shut the hell up' and this is the government and the police saying this ! The thing is, THE TRUTH hurts and the truth is what is giving Thailand a bad name. You should not be angry that people tell the truth, you should be angry that they lie, cheat, steal and beat tourists up ! Totally ridiculous ! This must be 'the unique Thainess' of 'Miracle Thailand' where your money will dissapear like magic !

Apparently Larry Cunningham has just resigned. Apparently the present row was co-incidental.

Are you joking???

No, I also believe the latter to be true, I don't think the Australian government would have given in, and I don't think they could have reacted so swiftly.

This would explain why he appeared more brazen and outspoken the last few months.

Australia has been fortunate in having at least two dedicated Honorary Conols who really deserve thanks. Mike in Chiangmai and Larry in Puket have really put the australian persons first here.

Whoever replaces Larry will have big shoes to fill. I doubt they will match him.
