HeijoshinCool
Depends on what you like and don't like, but I generally enjoy KC for a day or two (except during Songkran).
mauGR1
It's a good place, i think...Unfortunately there's not much to do if the weather is bad.
topt
I like Koh Chang for a few days and my gf really likes it. Great place to chil out and or have a blast depending on which beach you are at. Has it been affected by the oil at all?
chickenslegs
I have enjoyed many weekend breaks on Koh Chang. There are plenty of beaches to choose from and quite a few decent restaurants and pubs. I recommend taking your car over, or hiring a car or motorbike when you get there, as it is quite a big island (compared to, say, Samet) and the roads are pretty good (great views from the higher points). Just be careful, as the standard of driving there is no better than the rest of the country + numerous 1st-time scooterists. I have never visited during rainy season but I hear that it can be extremely wet.
Seismic
Unfortunately Koh Chang is being slowly turned into another Pattaya/Phuket/Samui/Samet clone. It really is a great shame as there was a great chance to do something special with this island. However the puu-yai's who call the shots dont really have the imagination of even the basic intelligence to step out of the standard mould and try. In another 4-5 years we will be hearing the same complaints on this forum as we have been listening to for a while now regarding Samui/Phuket, except it will be people lamenting over the crass commercialisation of Koh Chang.

10ten
It's a nice break from the city. If you've got a little more time, you could try going to เกาะกูด (Koh Kood) - it's only a little further and it's smaller and quieter. Watch out for the ยุงป่า (jungle mosquitos) though - the bites take forever to disappear.

This is very true, and yet another example of the "one trick monkey" mind set. The slow change is getting faster each year, witnessed easily in places like Walking Street Kai Bae; soon to be comparable with the mini patts on the edge of white sands. Maybe those responsible are right though, give the majority of punters what they want and they'll keep coming back with more money. Having said that, I think it's still possible to have an ok time on the island. Costs are going up of course, you can buy gasohol 91 for 44 BT a litre!! I've not seen any oil on the beaches, which are still mostly nice. Plenty of building going on, yawn, but still no high rise stuff yet. National Park status??? When there's enuf money on the table, anything gets changed in asia. Come and enjoy koh chang, sooner rather than later.
wellred
I'm planning on coming in January. Has KC been affected by the oil spill over on Samet?
ehabflamon
I have been looking for this product/service and I found this one http://www.ekohchang.com/ I am not sure about the quality or the origin of their offering. Has anyone have looked into this before? If you have any other options you know are worth the time to check out, please post them here. Thanks! T_Dog
Koh Chang is worth visiting and one of our favorite places. Make sure you take the 4 island snorkeling tour as it is a great value at 500 baht. The food they serve is excellent.

Three of the islands it does visit are undeveloped and one has some great vertical walls to snorkel with some nice fan coral sticking out.

wellred
Thanks for all the replies. Of all the places I'll be going I'm most looking forward to koh chang. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the 1 stop flight from Phuket to trat. Have to go to Bkk first and change. :-( Anyone stayed at Top Resort? It looked ok on agoda and I'm coming alone so I went for that. Is that far from little Pattaya? Thanks

Mini Patts is 5 minute walk. Don't know what Top is like, but they do make good bread. Good roast dinner and English Breakfast at Paddys. You're just a short walk to the beach as well. You should find the location fine.
