'Thai in weapons deal'
The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- Metropolitan Police Area 2 yesterday announced the arrest of a 56-year-old Thai man for alleged involvement in supplying Chinese-made weapons to Nagaland rebel groups operating on the Myanmar-India border.

The suspect, nabbed at his home in Lat Phrao in Bangkok, reportedly confessed he would be paid 5 per cent of the value of the deal, but denied any link to the rebels or terrorists.

Metropolitan Police Bureau 2 deputy commander Police Colonel Charoen Srisulak told a press conference the arrest followed a request from India after a previous arrest of an Indian accomplice. The deal, to buy 1,000 guns and several RPG rockets, was reportedly worth over US$2 million. The Thai man faces possible extradition to India.

this seems to be connected to this http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/653777-mae-hong-son-border-patrol-police-confiscates-over-100000-war-weapons/ about weapons in mae hong son.

cant figure why the "goods" would be in thailand if they were destined for india.

so that route is say china to myanmar to thai to myanmar to india if its going clandestinely across borders. seems an excessive amount of border crossing with associated risk.

only logic is that they were separated from thai military legal stocks.

I don't see the connection. This article says the guy was arrested for being involved in a plot to move 1,000 Chinese-made guns on the Myanmar-India border but doesn't say anything about where or even if the shipment itself was actually seized. Wasn't the MHS seizure 100k rounds of ammo but no guns?

Does the Thai military use Chinese-made guns?

Send him to India.

At the moment you mean of course..rolleyes.gif

Send him to India.

Let's wait until he's been tried and found guilty first. ("Reportedly confessed" hmmm).

Does India have a valid extradition treaty with Thailand? If so then they will need to make the appropriate requests.

Or, are you suggesting he's shipped off to India to endure their dubious justice system based on evidence that hasn't been presented to court?
