BANGKOK: -- Chiang Mai-Bangkok train services resumed at 5am Monday after officials salvaged a Bangkok-bound train that derailed in Lampang's Mae Mo district last night but without injury to its 192 passengers.

This was the 11th northern train derailment in the past nine months. The 11-bogy train had just left Chiang Mai at 5pm when its engines two front wheels were jumped the tracks.

Officials pulled the engine clear for repairs at the nearby Pang Puay Train StationState Railway of Thailand (SRT)’s northern centre head Somchai Kongchuensin said the derailment occurred on an uphill narrow curve that required the driver to run at 20 kilometres an hour before picking up speed.

Acting Chiang Mai Train Station head Weerayuth Sawangdee said SRT had planned to close a section of the railway from Sila-ard Station to Khun Tan Station in Lampang for repairs for 15 days.

"The 11-bogy train had just left Chiang Mai at 5pm when its engines two front wheels were jumped the tracks."

Obviously the Nation reporter has no idea what a "bogie" is, unless it's something excavated from the nose, one over par or an enemy with wings?

OTH, perhaps he meant 11 passenger cars (carriages) each with 2 bogies?

I guess until there is major accident on this line, nothing will be done.

Even with a major accident they will still do nothing

Just look at the carnage on the roads with buses and vans

People in power do not care about the people they serve

Nope not a joke.

Didn't Thailand declare itself the transport HUB?

11 derailments in nine months is a worse record than the Hornby train set I had as a kid. Blimey!

You were posh, Hornby was luxury, I had a wind up tin one that went in a small circle. Ha ha......joking, this record has to be in the G Book R.

This is a perfect example why jet ski scams are so popular, people just keep getting on things they're not supposed to....proof that 90 percent of people don't heed the warnings...clap2.gif

Rode the train 10 years ago not bad service in those days. Not today though even without the derailments its just not the value for the money. As I tell everyone who ask, FLY.

Chaps, close it all down now, sort it out and lose a bit of face before hundreds are killed and you lose a huge amount of face.

Who wants to volunteer to be the first to ride on the hi-speed bullet train when it is built in Thailand?

I think I am busy that day. let me check, Yep I'm right, definitely pencilled in for a nasal trim.

However the Minister of Transport HAS told the SRT to make sure that station toilets are properly cleaned and gave them a month to do so.

You have to get your priorities in the right order.

They need to close the line and repair it properly, quick fixes are a speciality here but they dont solve the problem they just push it further away.

Someone needs to take control of the situation, identify the parts of the line that need dealing with and deal with it. Deep ballast, level tracks, speed restrictions if required, safety is the priority and dont forget to go ever the locomotives and rolling stock as well are they fit for purpose.

Now much will it cost and does anyone a budget?
