M6/1. M6/2: SEMESTER 2.(2013-2014)

Ok, this semester is going to be quite a frustrating one with trying to achieve your grades, interviews as well as national examinations. There will be less time than last semester due to the many school activities that you are obliged to take part in.

I have revisited my academic requirements for yourselves and will now list them . Please note I am giving you exactly what I desire to receive from you but not setting any deadlines. Common sense on your part will dictate when I should receive them.

Priorities will be extremely important not trying to burn the candle at both ends or giving me sub-standard work. All work is to be done on an individual basis thus no pair work or group work except section B which requires full class cooperation.

There are 4 sections each carries 20 % and the final section is your all time favorite freerice with 10%.

Section A:- Education

Section B: Hobbies

Section C: Creative Design

Section D: Poetry

Section E: Freerice

SectIon A:

Choose two out of the following four questions:-

  1. Education is a form of control ensuring that the end product conforms to National Identity

Discuss the above statement with relation to education in a Thai Government Secondary School.

You should research what Thai Education is intended to do and note its history.

  1. If you were the Thai Minister for Education list 10 policies that you feel should be implemented in 2014. It is very important that you do not state the polices but explain how they will work and fit into the main strategy that you envisage for schools in 2014.

This question requires you to appreciate the strategic implications in the short and long term with the integration of the Thai Curriculum to meet the standards set by the AEC.

Bare in mind not only technological issues but also social changes that need to be integrated.

  1. In chronological order what were the messages he conveyed in all three talks?

The question needs you to combine all the three talks and to carefully separate the main ideas and the supporting details and then come up with a fluid list.

You have the scripts but I also suggest you read not only the English but also the Thai and listen to his talks.

  1. Compare and contrast his three talks.

You are requested to treat each talk as a separate entity and note what is similar and what is different in the three talks. Compare the talk as pairs and summarize his style, delivery and finally your impressions of this talks and the importance of what he talked about.

Section B:

This section is in 2 parts concerned with your personal hobbies. You are to choose one of your favourite hobbies and produce an instructional booklet.

The first part is full instructions from beginner to advanced level.

The second part is purely 10 photographs to illustrate your hobby ensuring that each stage is covered.

The class hands in one booklet thus the formation of the booklet with contents is handed in as a presentation pack.

Section C:

This section is on creating a unique design for bottles

You are to choose from whisky, gin, vodka, cognac, rum or any liqueur.

The unique design is to celebrate one of the following occasions:

  1. 30th birthday.
  2. 10thWedding Anniversary.
  3. Songkran.
  4. Christmas.
  5. New Year

There are two parts to this assignment

The first is to give a written account of the design noting the research done to know the company ,its strengths in the marketplace, its mission and how your design takes note of the company’s heritage and the uniqueness of the quality of the product. In addition your personal inspiration and motivation that is expressed in your artwork.

The second is a fully illustrated drawing either hand or computer generated of your own design

Having seen Becks Beer and “ Living without Labels” note this design is for a 1 litre bottle not a 330ml beer bottle.

NO TWO STUDENTS MAY CHOOSE ANY PRODUCT BUT NOT THE SAME COMPANY.

Section D

4 poems are given to you and you are to give your understanding of the poems supporting your observations taking relevant lines from the poems. This section is undertaken in the Facilitation Room.

Section E:

Freerice: From researching freerice give an account of the importance of freerice in the World Food Program and which other subjects could be introduced into the website .

5000 freerice from 5 different subjects.

Somtamnication.

Thanks for your thought. Your smile probably is a laugh.

No problem , doom and gloom is not applicable to all Thai students

I believe they will deliver

I teach 70 M6 students and they will all go to University, they work like hell have got their eyes on the ball and within a certain acceptable time frame deliver.

You are quite right I have set them a tough thoughtful, engaging and highly critical exercise.

I will scan their work and post it on Thaivisa when I have received their work next semester.

I am sure you are not only the one sceptic for no one else has made a comment.

Regards

Gerry

i think you will be spending a lot of time explaining the assignments as they are very poorly written on the whole. the punctation may even be worse than the writing itself.

Your language is deliberately elevated, yet you make mistakes when it comes to common idiom - ie "Bare in Mind"

I am uncertain why you are trying to come off as being intelligent rather than writing to be understood. I think it is a very good thing that you are not teaching communications.

for your students sake, take your faux academic hat off and write it all again. I would be very interested in hearing what your credentials are, ajarn.

This instruction makes no sense to me at all, not to mention why alcohol is the subject of the creative task

NO TWO STUDENTS MAY CHOOSE ANY PRODUCT BUT NOT THE SAME COMPANY.

No two students may choose the same product from the same company.

Punctuation not interested

As regards communication when they are in front of me then I will explain it

I posted this to get comments so thank you very much for pointing my errors.

Language elevated no that is the way I speak.

Alcohol has to do with ART AND BECKS BEERS LIVING WITHOUT LABELS .

Please do watch it and listen to the artists and what drives them

My students are creative and this project gives them the opportunity to

express themselves through music art as well as marketing.

Please read my poem on Farang pub( September 11) and your opinions will be duly noted. Thanks Gerry.

Unfortunately, by the time that they read your instructions and translate it into Thai the semester will be over and everybody will still pass!

It is poor netiquette to criticize grammar, unless specifically asked for. Please stick to the topic.

Not everyone posting is a native speaker and not everyone has access to a computer or decent internet.

OP has not mentioned the type of school he teaches at. And he cannot, obviously. But my experiences with provincial and city M6 level students leave a lot to be desired.

I do see some hope, in that the P level students have "better" cough cough English instruction, and earlier instruction than the now M6 level students had in their early P years.

Posts discussing moderation and an inflammatory post have been removed. Continue and you will receive a suspension.

Since some people can't figure out how stuff gets onto the internet, there are those little smart-phones that are sometimes used for posting, but make correcting errors challenging.

Stay on the topic.

I'll make it a little easier for some of our more contentious posters.

The OP doesn't ask for anything. He simply posted a plan.

Since you cannot be civil, topic closed.
