Tourist Police launches Road Show to boost tourists' confidence

BANGKOK, 11th September 2013 (NNT) – The ‘Thailand Tourist Police Road Show 2013’ has been launched to boost tourists’ confidence in their safety and convenience.

Tourist Police Chief Major General Roi Engkapairoj along with the Director General of the Department of Tourism presided over the launching ceremony of the campaign at the Railway Park, Bangkok.

The campaign is aimed at ensuring police readiness for security protection at tourist attractions nationwide, especially during the high tourist season at the end of the year.

It consists of five Tourist Police mobile stations, each equipped with a toilet, sofa bed, kitchen, LCD TV, security surveillance system, office equipment, an ipad and wifi for searching tourist information.

The mobile stations will be sent to four tourist cities, namely, Ayutthaya, Phuket, Pattaya, and Hua Hin.

The project is expected to boost the image of Thai tourism and help the country raise 2 trillion baht in tourism revenue annually during the next five years as targeted by the government.

Now, the major challenge is to ensure that they get to those tourist attractions alive. There doesn't seem to be any mention of making the roads safer for travelers. I doubt a giant banner with the words "Roadkill Show" would boost tourism in the LOS whistling.gifwhistling.gifwhistling.gif .

Once the tourists stop getting killed on roads or otherwise then tour companies will feel more confident in recommending Thailand for a safe holiday destination.

Will the volunteer clowns in Pattaya be part of this roadshow?

As another poster mentioned, if the BIB and TAT did their jobs properly in the first place, they wouldn't need to come up with this BS to try and justify what they are doing / not doing.

This is what it's all about, engender confidence by doing the job properly and efficiently without fear or favour but everything here has to be a 3 ring circus to grab some publicity then go back to the old routine.

We would all appreciate seeing a job done well and by all means have a press conference to trumpet success but make it a well run affair without detecting a crime before it's been committed far less investigated and minus the photo op for a cast of thousands all crushing in and of course pointing.

Never Happen !

-Riiiiiiiiight. This is going to make put a huge dent in all the genuine concerns Tourist might have and cause them to come rushing to the Kingdom. Of course, if they aren't here to begin with, how will they know these mobile stations exist? facepalm.gif

It's not the Jet Ski scammers or the Thai people that I am afraid of.........It is the Police themselves

13 years here and never had a problem with a Thai Citizen, only the BIB !!!!!!!

They need to start by stopping corruption, not Civilian acts of crime.

It is VERY easy to avoid crime in Thailand, don't wear Gold, avoid places that breed trouble, respect all people etc. HOWEVER it is not so easy to avoid Corruption and corrupt police who think they have a natural claim to your bank account.

If Thailand is really serious about making tourists feel confidence, then slow down the dam_n vans and stop killing people. Who the hell wants to tour a country where every time you drive or ride in a tour bus or van you are risking your life. I cannot enjoy looking at scenery because I have to watch every joker who is driving a car that thinks he is a formula 1 driver. Where you can expect a car or truck on your side of the road coming at you and not to mention hundreds of motorbikes. I also must include the train that falls off the track every other day and now last but not least the airplane that run off the runway because the nose wheel collapsed. IS ANYBODY HERE FEELING CONFIDENT

Back to Nanny state you come from for you Mr Yooper!!!

The doors will be locked from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with no public access while the officers inside take a dump, have a kip, make some Mama, watch Thai Fight and surf for porn.

Just to put in a good word, where it is (mostly) due, the Tourist Cops do do a reasonable job. They have helped out a few people I know (therefore nothing scandalous) over the years. And, I have never had my bike 'fined' by a tourist cop.

Who thinks up this idiocy?

Is there some kind of disconnect between cause and effect in this country?

Multiple choice?

We need to inspire more confidence among tourists about their safety in Thailand. What would be the most effective way?

a. Do our jobs better and arrest bad guys

b. Do our jobs better and arrest bad guys

c. Build a police box with an ipad inside it

d. Do our jobs better and arrest bad guys

e. None of the above

And folk who come up with these ideas are in control of stuff. clap2.gif

Get the folk you control to get out there and do the job. Don't care what part of the country, control your staff to do the job.

Me thinks they missed a few things in the interior of those vehicles.what about a fridge to keep the beers cold and a mortar with pestle to make the som tam fresh on a daily base and I almost forgot - the rice cooker.

It's nice that they specify the usage parameters of the ipad and wifi...they will definitely not be used to browse frivolous websites or play games!
