Just been on the UDT Immi website. It will not change language and seems to offer mostly pictures so I cannot answer my question there.

My Question to the locals is do they offer appointments for retirement extension (with reentry stamp application in parallel) ?

I am 61, married to a Thai lady and have the cash stashed.

Thanks

Hello, Be very careful about the retirement extensions. I just went and tried to extend my retirement visa and it was disallowed. The respnse was go to Laos and get another but going there I found another change that occurred in the last 3 weeks. If we are already living here in a state of retirement, they allow a 90 day extension, with the same requirements as needed to get the original. I was allowed to extend my old visa two times but then they stated my old one was expired and I had to get a new one. It is all in the Thai Embassy Laos website: vientiane.thaiembassy.org/vientiane/en/consular/consular_check/. Udon Immigration was useless in getting or giving information. getting a new one for me would mean a trip back to the states.

Most of their buisness is done on a walkin basis, first come first served. You can do both concurrently

Are you saying you believe the retirement visa can only be renewed twice?

What exactly do you mean with retirement visa? In the confusing and incomprehensible post you quote, there is no mention of a "retirement visa". In fact, there is no such thing as a retirement visa. There is the non-immigrant visa category O-A (long term), obtainable form a Thai consulate, and there is the one-year extension of stay for the reason of retirement, called retirement extension for short, obtainable from the local immigration office.

I don't think they have appointments.

Do you already have a non-o visa? If you do you can do extension at any time.

If no. I think they may do a conversion to a non immigrant visa entry. You just have to try or go to Vientiane for a single entry non-o.

Just go to immigration during the last 30 days of any of your entries. You don't have to wait for visa to expire.

Get a letter from bank confirming your balance and make copies of bank book to prove it has been there for 60 days.

Are you going to apply for an extension based upon marriage or retirement?

No Appointments.

In my experience have always found Udon Immigration helpful and courteous and yes will do extension and re-entry at the same desk.

Well I called them yesterday to see if they would do a conversion to Non O for retirement from Tourist visa, since Sakhon Nakhon refused to.

The answer I got was "bring in the documents and we will look at them". They would not answer yes we do or no we don't.

That was not my question and I have yet to get my embassy letter. So they were of no help whatsoever to me. At least Sakhon Nakhon said "No" go to Bangkok or Laos.

Has anyone had the conversion done at Udon Thani with the embassy letter and bank statement printout....????? I will use the g/fs address there.

I find the Udon Thani Immigration to be pretty good.

Theres no appointments.....just first come, first served......just get a ticket and wait until your number flashes up on the electric screen.......same as going to the bank,as an example.

If you already have a Non O Visa, easy to extend on the basis of retirement......either proof of income 65k per month or 800,000 baht in a Thai bank or a combination of both.

I think for your initial application the funds have to be in the bank for 3 months ? (you will need a letter from your Thai bank for this to show Immigration). For the monthly income you will need a letter of confirmation from your embassy that can be done by post instead of going to Bangkok,if you wish.

You can get your re-entry permit (single or multi entry) at the same time as you get your extension based on retirement.

I would think conversion from a tourist visa to Non Immigrant O on the basis of retirement should be possible at Udon.......certainly you should be able to get a single entry 90 days.......letter from the bank and/or embassy as appropriate (see above).

But,if not,Vientiane in Laos is only about 70 kilometres from Udon and the consulate there should be able to sort you out.

@ubonjoe. Did not register your last question sorry. I will go retirement as from what I can see it's a lot less hassle.
