MILAN: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday defended her sartorial choice to wear a partly discoloured green Thai silk jacket on her visit to Italy's fashion capital of Milan by saying her new style was rather "accidental".

The picture of the premier with the jacket while walking down the plane's staircase has caused a stir on Thailand's netizens, and received both positive and negative reviews.

The premier yesterday posted her view on Facebook stating: "I arrived in Milan and had the chance to wear a tailored jacket with silk fabrics from [Her Majesty the Queen's] Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand [in Ayutthaya]. It was flooded in 2010 and led to the different colours seeping onto the fabric thus creating a new pattern that I wear today."

The discoloured patches were on the premier's right jacket pocket, the jacket's left arm and near the right side of the lapel.

The PM was to give an opening speech at a seminar entitled: "The Italy-Thailand Business Forum: Commercial and Investment Opportunities for Italian SMEs" where an exclusive roundtable discussion involving leading Italian executives took place. That was followed by a visit to a showroom of furniture-maker Poltrona Frau.

Her sartorial choice led to intense debate with some saying it's inappropriate for the premier on an official visit, adding that it may diminish Thailand's image, while others praised her for her good and novel taste that turned out to be beautiful. The premier is known to be a fashionista.

The prime minister is on a European tour to Switzerland, Italy and Montenegro and is scheduled to return to Thailand today.

Brilliant and classic, the PM of Thailand gives her views on facebook and expects to be taken seriously, I bet Bart Simpson is laughing his ass off singing sky blue pink with yellow dots on, oh and a bit of green...clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

Dollars to donuts: It will catch on and flood stained silk clothing will become next year's hot item.

Factories will open just to synthetically flood damage silk, and there will be patents issued for the different processes. Universities will have classes in how to make it look real.

Or she'll just admit she dressed in the dark.

I once wore 2 different shoes to work. Not a fashion statement, just dressed before my first coffee and ran out the door. (In fairness, they were both brown loafers, just different brands) If Justin Bieber did it, everyone would be wearing 2 different shoes the next week.

bit of turbulence inflight while having a glass of wine?

You would think after a 1000 years of flooding in Thailand, the Thais would have flooding licked by now?

So, the plane landed on top of the Duomo.

Yeah, and judging from the the guy's hand gesture next to her, he is like asking "Perché??" :)

Instead of questioning YL's attire the Sunday Nation would be better employed questioning why she's out of the country so often.

An op ed in another newspaper points out that in her 19 months as PM she has visited 30 countries which is almost 1.6 a month and it seems hard to justify. Even genuine world leaders don't travel that much.

Can we maybe conclude she's under orders to keep out of the way as much as possible and if nothing else avoid questions that she simply can't answer ?

Puppet on a string, is she out of the country taking orders from one in exile.....???????....

Make your own minds up,,,,????

I 'd say she had a very bad taste and no class at all.

Why I can't help but thinking that her real intention was to trigger

sympathy and possibly get some free Italian designer clothes?

After all she is in the right place (what a coincidence).

What she does she does for a purpose.

Stay tuned for more

Surely there has got to be MUCH more important things to worry

about for Thai's than what the PM is wearing !

A wonderful projection of the stained and tawdry image of the current Thai government puppet politics and policies along with a total disregard for Thailand and its peoples are there for all the world and the Thai people to see.

Yingluck has displayed the truth (unintentionally no doubt) on the worlds stage confirming without a doubt what a Machiavellian inspired puppet production this current administration is.

She looks like she's been dragged backwards through a hedge.

laugh.png Thanks for that. A very good response to a ridiculous thing. I mean, all this attention over a xxxxxx jacket. There is a huge amount of sick/poor people in this country... say no more.
