Really? Visiting porn sites is illegal?!

Hello,

I just read this topic from an admin: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/334588-proxies-vpn-and-other-information/?p=3306326

which states that:

If a topic is asking how to use VPN to get around MICT or getting the best porn without being caught or downloading TV shows, then the topic is in violation of forum rules and the law and will be closed.

"getting the best porn without being caught" - caught by who? by the police?

is it illegal in Thailand to go to websites like youporn, xnxx, etc.? I'm accessing Internet through TOT and never had any censorship/blocking of porn sites.

Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong!

PS: Reason I post in this category is because the quoted text I'm asking about comes from a pinned&closed topic at the top of this category.

In Thailand:

Pornography laws in Thailand prohibit all types of pornography. Production, distribution and possession with an intention to show to the public are criminalized. However, possession for personal use is legal. The law enforcement is relatively lax. Other forms of pornography such as yaoi and hentai are illegal but are common over the internet.

I believe Thai Visa is protecting themselves from the distribution aspect over the internet. The MICT could block them it they allowed it to be known how to access porn sites that are blocked by the MICT.

OMG I will NEVER use 3BB!!!!! Never had any problems with TOT, expect for some Wikipedia pages about the King

On what site are you getting this notice?

Now that I know this, I will definitely stop looking at porn sites

Now that you know what? The law clearly states that it is legal, see next quoted message.

The irony of this is that about 8 or 9 months ago, I had an advertisement for very hardcore porn on the face of my ThaiVisa page. It was a live action ad leaving NOTHING to the imagination. One of them even had the woman's face creamed. I complained to the mods and the ads went away, but of course nobody answered me. I'm not a prig; it was the hypocrisy that annoyed me most. Anything for a buck.

While I have no problem with Thai Internet providers blocking porn sites there are other sites dealing with politics and other subjects of that ilk that are also blocked

If you don't have a problem with censorship good for you my friend wink.png

If you have a problem with censorship then Thailand isn't the place for you... smile.png

A post was removed as it was unnecessarily bringing HM the King into the discussion, discussion of HM the King is strictly forbidden as per forum rule 2:

2) Not to express disrespect of the King of Thailand or anyone else in the Thai royal family, whether living or deceased, nor to criticize the monarchy as an institution. Speculation, comments and discussion of either a political or personal nature are not allowed when discussing HM The King or the Royal family. Discussion of the lese majeste law or lese majeste cases is permitted on the forum, providing no comment or speculation is made referencing the royal family. To breach this rule will result in immediate ban.

While the discussion has been about guidelines found in the help section, lets not forget this forum rule:

9) Not to discuss proxies or other methods of bypassing government blocking of websites.

you do know prostitution is illegal, right? xsmile.png.pagespeed.ic.4tUibSscbZ.webp

where? in Thailand?

I don't know about Thailand but in Europe it is totally legal.

Edit: ah, you added "in Thailand", ok then, thanks for the info. So the law is ridiculously ineffective then seeing all the bars, gogos, etc. literally selling the girls with a bar fine etc.

I don't know about Thailand but in Europe it is totally legal.

I don't think so - certainly not all Europe and not "totally"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Europe

As you can see on the map on Wikipedia, prostitution is totally legal in most of Europe (blue and green areas). Only pimping is illegal in the blue areas but prostitution itself is fully legal by law.

Are you aware that those parts are not part of the European Union? It's Russia, Ukraine, etc. where it's illegal but widespread and largely ignored by the government:

Prostitution in Ukraine is illegal but widespread and largely ignored by the government.%5B1%5D Sex tourism rose as the country attracted greater numbers of foreign tourists.%5B1%5D %5B2%5D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Ukraine

In Russia it's less ignored but only punishable by a $65 fine:

Prostitution is an administrative, but not criminal offence in Russia (such as, for example, drinking beer in a public place or walking nude on the street). The maximum punishment is a fine up to 2000 rubles (~65$);

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Russia

and so on... feel free to check on Wikipedia all the remaining countries, as I know that geographically speaking Russia is part of Europe be politically speaking it is not, therefore I confirm what I have said earlier: prostitution in Europe (EU) is totally legal in most of its countries.

So now we've brought this into a discussion about the legalities of prostitution in Europe. Rather off topic.

As this topic started out discussing how to circumvent certain laws/forum rules about pornography and discussing methods of bypassing government blocking of websites, I think we're done here.
