Doc50
One of those Thai things that you can do in Thailand. Fiance was never married on paper. Years after seperating from boyfriend she took the (Mrs) title on her Thai ID card (Baht prachachoen) for the sake of her daughter. To have a mom with the name Mrs like all the other moms at the daughters school. The local government had no problem changing her title just to help her out. Daughter is now an adult age 23, the title change was over 20 years ago. Her birth name and current name remain the same. Example birth name: Pornthip Sima. Current name (Mrs) Porthip Sima. With that title exception. It is on her passport now and everything else. Question: Is this going to be a problem for US Immigration. I know the want copies of every name change. But there really are no papers to that affect. Anyone out there have any ideas of what to do about this before I start to file papers? Thanks Doc
harrry
She cannot have taken the title Mrs. It means she has had a marriage registered at the ampure. She can change her name but she cannot change that. At least you know she is not a ladyboy.

KhaoNiaw
She cannot have taken the title Mrs. It means she has had a marriage registered at the ampure. She can change her name but she cannot change that. At least you know she is not a ladyboy. She could have the title Mrs. Many years ago, after our daughter was born but we hadn't legally registered our marriage, my wife applied for passports. They wouldn't issue a passport to her with the นางสาว (Miss) title because she already had a child. So she had to go and officially change her title to นาง (Mrs) before they would accept the passport application. This almost became an issue later on when buying a house as the first bank that she asked about a mortgage wanted her husband's details. She said she wasn't married, so they wanted evidence of a divorce. The next bank didn't worry about this. It would not bother me if she was married before. So why make this up? You can do almost anything in Thailand for the right price with goverment. But she did not even have to bribe anyone to do this. There is a thing called courtesy. I have been in Thailand 12 years and have been with this lady for more than 4 years. Now if anyone would like to reply to the question at hand I'd appreciate it. Doc The morons usually do descend on requests for information with insults and false information. I wish I could help you with an answer but I'm not even of the appropriate nationality. Have you tried asking your Embassy or Border Agency for advice?

She can change her name but she cannot change that. At least you know she is not a ladyboy. It's entirely plausible that she could have done it without being married... You ever seen the form required to change name and or amend names? And I'm almost positive that given a little encouragement it would have been even more possible... From what I understood of the conversation between the District Office and my wife was that it gets complicated when trying to change back to Ms from Mrs, however the first time is dead easy changing from Ms to Mrs....
ubonjoe
I think the best solution is to get it changed to Miss. It should not be a problem to have it done starting at the Amphoe for the ID and other records. Then get a new passport. Changing from Mrs to Miss is not changing a name.
