True ADSL and fixed line "fees"

Hi Guys

I've been trying to get myself connected for the past few weeks! First I went to a TrueMove shop and registered for an ADSL service. They told me that DOCSIS (cable internet) was not available in my condo. After a few days they called me and said there's a problem in my condo and they can't install a new fixed line here. But they said I should try again later. To figure out what was wrong I asked my Thai friend to call them and since (as far as I learned) Thais don't get each other very well too (!) again my friend said a couple of things like some boxes are full inside the building or something like that. Meanwhile some of my neighbors got their ADSL set up by True!

Then I asked my friend to call True call center again today. He called me and said ok! Finished! He apparently ordered the contract in his name and said they would connect me by the end of this week. Now here's the problem. He said I have to pay Bt599 for a 10Mb internet and Bt100 for the fixed line per month! I have never seen this additional Bt100 and never been told about it in any True shop. Even when I registered the time, he emphasized I have to pay exactly 599 + 7% every month. Everything else would be free on a 1-year contract. As you can see in the attached image, they didn't mention this Bt100 there either.

Do you pay this fee??? Should I ask my friend to cancel this contract before it's late?

Actually it will be 100 baht plus 7 baht VAT tax paid to phone company for the phone line. Suspect that was the issue with your Condo - only phone lines are available - they can not install a stand alone ADSL line. So you will have have a phone number assigned and can indeed install a phone on that line as well as use for the ADSL.

Thanks for your answer. I know about the 7% VAT.

I know that ADSL is actually over a fixed-line, but I didn't know that I have to pay Bt100/mo for the line separately. I thought everything would be taken care of on a 1-year Bt599 + 7% contract. They just never mentioned it! Until the very last moment that they confirmed my registration.

It can be a true line for just ADSL at no charge in most cases I believe but suspect at your location they must use a phone line so the extra fee for that must be paid. This is my guess on the 100 baht charge as that is a normal phone line monthly fee.

The 100 baht charge is not levied by True, but by TOT. So you get two bills, one from True, one from TOT. The lease of the fixed line is of no concern to True.

And cheap enough too.

I was told by the True shop that they don't install anything higher than the second floor. Suppose it depends who you speak to.

And you should be able to use the line as a regular phone line also...it should come with a number....can come in handy if your cell phone ain't working or for people calling in. Now if you make any outbound calls each call will cost you a few baht; but there is no charge for inbound calls. Basically you got a landline that also comes with ADSL.
