Popular Post bigbamboo
I've lived here with my Thai wife and stepson for the past decade and I think we all understand Thailand less now than we did ten years ago. khunpa
I don't really think you need to "learn" much to be able to survive here. You just need to be able to respect people, adapt, use common sense and "be yourself". I have met people who have lived here for over 20 years, that I would say have less knowledge about Thailand, than many first-time tourists. If you are living in a closed expat-community, then you can live here for decades and still learn nothing.

ravip
Really, what's wrong with the OP's post? I guess that prod on many pseudo experts raw spots! It has been proven beyond any doubt that the more money & arrogance you have, the faster you become a "Thai Expert" or for that matter any expert - even before you see Thailand, just by reading! cpofc
I'm not giving anything away at this time, I'm waiting til they syndicate 'Mastermind' in Thailand and then I intend to enter with my specialist subject, 'SE Asian Bars and Red Light Districts 1970 - 2000'. Get there early.

I read Thaivisa since 4 years, i have never seen anybody claiming to be an expert of Thailand... ..Just people expressing their point of view, which can be more or less debatable. There are some very knowledgeable people posting regularly on this Forum, but my very personal opinion is that the OP cannot guess who are them.

Should the whole world satisfy 'them'? Are 'THEY' perfect? ( quote ) Well, nobody's perfect...But IMHO every opinion deserves a little consideration, if not respect... I don't think i am a Thai-basher, neither an apologyst..As i live here, i feel free to express my quite debatable opinion. For example, i have some belief in reincarnation, as my Thai neighbours probably do...Still, i look left and right before pulling off the Soi...If my Thai ( or foreigner ..) neighbour pull off the Soi without looking, i can feel entitled, after slamming the brakes and risking my own life, to say he's an idiot...I am expert of Thai ways enough no to show him the finger though

And of course "farangs" like some Thai 'things' - if not nothing like this would exist. Should make a poll - What farang like in Thai and what Thai like in farang? Edit: Wonder if there is a Farang Visa Forum done by Thais? Edited September 18, 2013 by ravip
itsadryheat
Our friend has apparently met too many ugly americans, brits etc. I get that. The good news is, I doubt most farangs think they will ever know much about Thailand and her ways, and are just here to enjoy the place and the people. I married a Thai (now divorced) and I'm more confused than ever.

x0r1987
What does the OP define as expert?Could the average Thai Person be considered an 'expert' in Thailand? If not, then the average Thai just gives their opinion... Same as what happens here.. But sad you get a lot of Thai Bashing here... But, you get a lot of bashing on any expat forum for a lot of countries... (Just looked at an Aussie-Expat Board.... wow.... they hate us haha) [EDIT] And just found 2 Thai Nationals bashing Australia in a similar way people bash Thailand here.... Whats that mean? There are douches all over, in every country, and if you let them bother you, you are the one losing Edited September 18, 2013 by x0r1987
