MINI Cooper unleaded which one E20/gasohol91/gasohol95/bensil95?

I am driving an 2005 Mini Cooper from China to Thailand. In the owner's manual it states the car only takes unleaded fuel. As far as I know Thailand has E20, gasohol 91, gasohol 05, and bensil 95. May I know which one should I use so that it matches the "Unleaded" in my car's owners manual?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know what your car owners manual reads.

BenzIne 95 is not a gasohol I guess if the car manual reads gasohol only then 91 or 95 gasohol should be fine, I would check out with the manufacturer first before using E20.

Is Gasohol 91 or gasohol 95 "Unleaded" ?? The Owner's manual says use only unleaded fuel.

Gasohol 91 and gasohol 95 are both "Unleaded" gasolines that are blended with 10% Ethanol.

Benzene 95 is "pure" unleaded gasoline w/o Ethanol additives.

Meaning 10% is Ethanol and it is not 100% unleaded. Thanks a lot. I will go for Benzene 95. However, I heard it is not easy to get Benzene 95 especially outside of BKK. Is it true? Also, if I have a 2-month visa can my car "live" in Thailand for 2 months?

I'm pretty sure you have to put up a bond to bring in your car equivalent to what the authorities deem is the tax. Have you got all your paperwork in order before driving through various countries to get the car into Thailand?

I drive a Mini Cooper also.

You really want to go for the higher octane, I am told that either premium 95 (benzene) or gasohol 95 is the way to go. If there are long periods of not using your car, then try to fill up on premium 95 for those times as gasohol supposedly has a slight issue of evaporation affecting the octane (and lowering it slightly).

I've used gasohol 95 for a couple of years without any issues at all. If you can find Shell they have a V Power nitro 95 gasohol which the car seems to like, I run every 5th tank or so with premium, but that's probably not necessary, I just have long periods where I don't use the car.

Don't use e20.

Regarding paperwork I know several people with cars from abroad, you need to be aware you will need to do some paperwork before you come in, and also that the car leaves every 90 days from memory. If done right you do not need to post a bond, I never heard of that from the people I know who have done this (from Malaysia mostly). Might want to check the insurance as well.

May I know your Mini model year? I heard Gasohol 95 is much cheaper compared to Benzene 95 and Benzene 95 is not available everywhere. I am driving my car everyday from place to place so it shouldn't be a problem. However if possible I will still go for Benzene 95. About the paperwork and bond ill double check again since I plan to drive around Thailand for about 2 months. I also heard that if a car worth 2 million in Thailand, if it is lost (touch wood), the owner have to pay the government 3 times of the market value which is 6 million baht, is this true? As we can only buy 3rd party insurance for foreign car, it doesn't cover the loss?

Mogandave,

Does it means Gasohol 91 and Gasohol 95 also considered "Unleaded" fuel?

Steelepulse,

Thanks for the information. I haven't got my paperwork ready. I am going next month so I will start collecting it tomorrow.

I would consider them an unleaded fuel, whether or not they are suitable for your vehicle is questionable.

Why not contact the manufacturer directly?

It would easier if we knew the octane rate on which the 2005 cooper will run on, 91 0r 95. rolleyes.gif

Thanks alot everyone. I have contacted MINI in Ekkamai and they said it is safe to use Gasohol 91, Gasohol 95, and Benzin on a MINI. E20 is not recommended if your engine isn't designed for that. Aside from that Mini Cooper Owner's Manual also bold the words that "MINI runs only on unleaded fuel". Now I have found the answer that Gasohol 91 and 95 are both unleaded. Thanks!
