170 cm Takarp

Another day in LOS. This unfortunate must have just expired when I came across him in front of our house. Ants were just starting to check him out. One of my cats might have been the cause of his demise. He seems to be missing one of his rear most legs, as if he was played with. Not sure if it was one of my puddin' pies, but they are O.K. Glad he didn't wander in the house as the door has been open all day.

I think you mean 17cm.

While you are technically correct it's obvious you lack imagination.

can grow to 12 inches its still a baby and should not be killed they are good for the environment.

Unfortunately this one was dead already. I don't kill any dangerous animals, just relocate them, like the 3+ meter python who came into our neighborhood to gobble up a pair of unlucky chickens last August (well, to be honest professionals were called to do that job). Except for the monocled cobra on my door step. I was actually moving him to safety when a neighbor who saw freaked. She came running out and frantically proceeded to poke holes in him with a sturdy stick before I could do anything about it. He was fatally wounded at that point so I compassionately put an end to him quickly.

having been bit by one, i beg to differ. they should be slaughtered on sight.

i know they are not good for you health, but exactly how dangerous are they? I have heard these critters can kill you.

I was bit on the ankle by one sized similar to the one in the op. I felt like i had been electrocuted. My leg swelled so heavily the doctor considered scoring it so the skin would not split in its own.

Swelling took the better part of of a week to subside and it was a full 3 weeks before I could put a shoe on that foot.

Pain was intense for a week. Throbbing for 2 and very tender for a month. I have friend who got off easily in comparison after an awful week. So mileage varies. Suffice it to say you don't want to try your luck.

a 170cm creature wouldn't even be the size of your palm try your entire body and mind you that creature would have scared the shiat out of you and all your cats nine lives.

i think the op means 170mm.if you think any thais like these creatures,i was at one of these open air buffet places which is full every night [100 or more punters] when some shouted takarp, you could have sworn you were in a beer kellar everyone jumped up on to the benches and stayed there till its final rites was administered.

I saw one in the Rajah Hotel carpark outside Annies Massage one night.. A Thai saw me taking photos of it and called to the security guard who came over and killed it with a stick. It's an idiotic mentality, but what can you do apart from not letting people see?

At first i didn't know i thought takarp was the english name of a centipede like a specific species of centipede you know like how they have different names for a crocodile and an alligator even though both look the same and a rabbit and a hare then i realise it's the thai word for centipede.

My personal opinion is that well these creatures are better off dead and alive and they make a tasty snack for your pet arrowanna and bird.
