Found Pit Bull Pup

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

A neighbor was recently followed home by a young, emancipated and injured PB pup. Seems to be about 3-5 months old.

It has a broken, but healed (crooked) rear leg and limps. It also had a nasty head wound (healing well), probably from another dog attacking. This neighbor paid for vet treatment and x-rays, has fed it up and it now looks very well and happy. Good disposition.

He has 3 other dogs and can't really keep it.

If anyone has lost a pup (he says it speaks English!), or wants to adopt, let me know and I'll put you in touch.

Edit: It has a brown coat.

Emancipated - he escaped from his owners? (Perhaps, emaciated..)

It seems your neighbour is a decent type. Hope the animal finds a good home...

Yes, please post a pic and also where in Phuket was he found? I know of a Thai couple who own a tour company in Patong (no idea where they live) who had a small pit bull puppy that had had a broken leg that had healed...it just makes me wonder....I can ask them if they still have him or if he went missing...

Good on you and your friend for helping the pup!

Found in Chalong.

Still worth asking, the broken leg is a clue.

Hi Old Croc,

Today I will go and ask the Tour Co people if their dog is missing.

Their dog was brown, can't remember if it was male or female but the broken/crooked leg is what has got me thinking....and I saw the dog at their shop a few times but now not for some time...

Anyway, I'll ask them so we can rule out the possibility if nothing else.

I checked with them but their dog is safe and well and at home.

You could try posting his pic and details on the Soi Dog Foundation and Phuket Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) facebook pages or email their websites if you don't use facebook. If either of my dogs went missing I would check with SDF and PAWS first and then every shelter/vet/groomer/ pet store on the island.

My girl (pictured in my avatar) is micro-chipped and wears an ID tag....my newly adopted male dog will also be micro-chipped when he is well enough, he's recovering from a nasty dog attack at the moment, but he also has ID on his collar. He was once someone's pet but was found on the streets of Patong in a very bad state and we've been unable to find his owner so now we are his new family. All dog owners should put on ID on their dogs, saves a lot of heartache!

Thanks Auslady for checking that out, much appreciated.

I'll talk to the neighbour to see what he wants to do and will check the web sites.

(We take our dogs to PAWS for vet care. They are the reason we can't take the little guy in.)

A pitbull not agressive by nature? Really? clap2.gif

It's not like they have been genetically engineer to produce the best fighting dog possible, and that they are responsible by a huge margin for most of canine related deaths.

Unfortunatly, what you are saying is bull***.

Last 10 years there has been about 30 death by dog a year in the US, and pitbulls are responsible for about 45% of them, while they are only representing 2% of the dog population.

I can't imagine the carnage if they were man aggressive by nature.

Anyway this is irrelevant. Most of soi dogs are peacefull and harmless creatures. But some of them are just plain nasty and vicious bastards, regardless of their nature. Well I don't want to face that kind of behaviour in the body of pitbull. Thanks, but I'll let pitbull lovers deal with those monstruosity, since they are responsible for getting those dogs in this country.

You really have to be kidding man.

From

https://www.causes.com/actions/1753697-fatal-pit-bull-attacks-sharply-rise-in-2013

"In the first 5 months of 2013, pit bulls inflicted 93 percent of all dog bite fatalities. This is well above the average of 60 percent from 2005 to 2012.

As the pit bull population rises, more human fatalities ensue. During the last eight-year period (1991-98) that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention studied fatal attacks by breed, pit bulls were estimated at 1 percent of the U.S. dog population. Pit bulls killed an average of three people per year.

The pit bull population has since grown to 4 percent. During the most recent eight-year period (2005-12), pit bulls killed an average of 19 people per year.

If the current rate of fatalities inflicted by pit bulls continues, 33 Americans will lose their lives to pit bulls by the end of 2013."

Not man aggressive, do me a favour are you serious???? w00t.gif

No its not bull only pure facts.

Pitbulls have an above average level of aggression directed towards other dogs and a below average level of aggression towards humans.

The blame is on the owners and their lack of responsibility -not the dog.

You want facts here you are again,

"In the first 5 months of 2013, pit bulls inflicted 93 percent of all dog bite fatalities"

If that is " a below average level of aggression towards humans " I would hazard a guess that the

author of that fiction is highly biased in favour of pitbulls.

That is the whole of the US but you blame the owners, well the owners of non-pitbulls must be saints.

As you said yourself pure facts, I like dogs but imo the only good pitbull is a stuffed and mounted one.

Please show me one official study of the breed that concludes that the APBT is human aggressive by nature.
In temperament tests the APBT has a passing rate of 83.9%, which i slightly better than that of the Golden Retriever at 83.2%.
Most people cant even tell the difference btwn an American bull dog, American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, Boxer, Dogo Argentino, Presa canario, Staffordshire Bull Terrier or an American pitt bull Terrier... And yes i agree all these dogs, and any dog can be dangerous especially if they are bred by wrongful hands.
You can not blame a dog for being a dog you can blame the owners lack of responsibility / understanding of the specific breed.

The whole model is about responsible pet ownership . . . We don’t really have an animal problem we’ve got a people problem.

My family have bred APBT for more than 25 years not once have we had dogs that have been aggressive towards humans and not once have our dogs attacked or bid humans ..well this must be coincidence and pure luck, right? ... Its funny the more i learn about these dogs the luckier i get..

You don't get it. Obviously a well trained pitbull is not that dangerous. I know a serious pitbull owner, his dog is pretty cool and well behaved (although he's killed 4 cats already...). But a badly trained or neglected pitbull is a little more dangerous than pretty much any other dogs. Just a little.

Unfortunatly, in this country dog owners don't really train their dogs, they think it's fun to see them chase passing bikes. Last year in phuket a poor dude nearly lost his leg because the owner of a couple pitts forgot to close the door of his garden. With another kind of breed and he would just have needed a few stiches, but he got instead a 3 months stay at the hospital and a nice set of scars.

http://www.phuketgazette.net/phuket_news/2013/Vicious-Pit-Bull-Attack-Phuket-mother-files-for-compensation-20342.html

Let's just hope this strange attraction to this deathly and (imo) ugly animal does not spread too much in this country.

As for soi dogs, well, by definition you would not be able to blame the owner's lack of responsibilty, because a pittbull soi dog would not have any w00t.gif
