If you filed for an extension for your 2012 tax filing, the 2012 tax return is now due October 15.

Given a fairly decent chance of a government "shutdown" very soon -- if you haven't filed yet, be advised the IRS help lines will not be available during such a shutdown.

I assume they will have a mailbox open to receive mailed in returns and I also assume you can still file online and IRS will be still be "open" to receive your return that way (though not 100 percent sure on that one).

When I file online there is a process where the IRS acknowledges receipt of the return online (via your online filing software/website). I have no idea if that is all automatic or if there is human staff looking at that before the confirm is sent.

Happy filingrolleyes.gif for the hard core procrastinators among us.w00t.gif
