Attempting to import cocaine.

Plotting to kill a law enforcement agent.

They must have some concrete evidence of other serious crimes. The ones above that they have arrested him for have not actually been committed yet!!

Conspiracy alone is treated as a very serious crime.

Even when the law enforcement agencies create the conspiracy.. blink.png

Of course, this is their modus operandi. Tried and tested. In most parts of the world what's considered justice in the US would be completely illegal.

Then again their politics would be considered illegal in a lot of places around the world too. Millions of dollars of bribes campaign funds for example.

Wow I so impressed today by all the sane and logical replies to this topic. Usually I would be reading some idiotic thing asking for mandatory life sentences regardless of guilt but to be acussed more than adequate for "Little Mary Sunshine" and the other Reagan/Bush era mentality to fey this guy as hard and fast as possible. Anyone with even a little intelligence should be able to see through the DEA's illgal operation. Yes they spen millions and millions creating crimes with their use of informants and then arresting the poor victim needingoney probably to pay for baby food and diapers. This is their so called "Drug Lords". What a joke!!

The war on drugs agencies knows that their job is a losing proposition, all smoke and mirrors. So every once in awhile they have to have a Large Headline arrest to justify their salaries and their huge operating funds. If the US govt. closed down the war on drugs issue tomorrow, I would imagine there would be thousands of people without a job. And we can't have that can we? coffee1.gif

Another case of blatent entrapment by the US Government operating in Thailand.

I noticed from a picture in one of the Thai newspapers that this guy was being escorted onto what looked like a private jet.

This is how they catch terrorists / high pofile criminals these days. They approach some deadbeat, offer him anything he wants and offer to fund them in a way which would not have been possible before FBI interference. Then they move in and 'save the world' with their headline making arrests which were a complete setup from the start.

I guess the green light for Thailand operations was the Victor Bout incident and his subsequent loss of appeal, now they're expanding this program to go after anyone they can reign in.

While the USG are very busy running their entrapment ops two idiots easily go out and build a bomb destined for the Boston marathon....

"now they're expanding this program to go after anyone they can reign in."

Someone definitely seems to be bitter about the arrests taking place. Sounds like it's reigned on someone's parade or maybe Rudolph the Red Nose Reigndeer only left some coal in his Christmas stocking last year and that still rankles.

Common sense is prevailing at last here on of all places. TV!!!! Lol lets all hope this guy has a good high priced lawyer that has all the good ole boy connections to get this poor victim off. I say ( and today for some reason many people in agreement ) F... the DEA"

Hardly, I don't like the fact that the US has took it upon itself to police the world and so many governments are following their lead with blind compliance.

First they come after the big guys (Victor Bout), now the smaller fish are also being fried (these idiots in Phuket). What comes next ?

I agree, however with the 'creep' of the US overreach saying something like that one day could put you on their list of targets.

The whole gamut of US law enforcement works out of the US Embassy. DEA, FBI, Secret Service to name just a few and they're all meddling in the affairs of Thailand on a day to day basis.

They had to set him up to bring him in. You could see the U.S. agent trying to get out of the T.V. cameras view yesterday. I guess he had to do the finger pointing.

I hope the Americans have frozen all his assets already so they can be seized if he is convicted. Anyone know how much Hunter is/was worth?

That's easy to say until the govt seizes YOUR assets, alleging that YOU were part of some "vast criminal enterprise". YOUR house, your cars, your boat, computers, everything. And if they don't prove their case in a court of law, and are ordered to give you back your stuff, it will come back in pieces, and take a very long time. And then, they will be looking for a new way to bone you. I note that you are a UK guy, but I'm sure your govt has the same kind of "justice" system in place.

What a monster we have created.

Indeed, the well known saying that ends with 'Then they came for me' comes to mind.

Just want to add that this seems to prove that skills learned in the military can be transferred to civilian life careers.

Actually there are laws against attempting to commit a crime as well as conspiracy laws which only require one of the group to commit an "act in furthurance" to have committed the crime. You and I plan to rob a bank, I go buy duct tape, and the elements of the crime of conspiracy are met.

I don't like entrapment set ups like this either. Hitman , Really!

This guy probably is a piece of garbage, but like someone remarked, if he has enough good information for

The DEA, he likely will be place in the witness protection program, though likely not back in Thailand.

As far as "trained killer" statement, yes he was trained to kill, along with myself and thousands of other folks such as

Brits, Aussies, Kiwi's, Canadians, but like most, I kept my sense of morality and never hurt a flea.

The voice of experience has spoken.

Now here is another little fact that is often over looked. Criminals get innocent decisions based on details that have nothing to do with the crime. Like you didn't tell me I had a right to a lawyer. Or how about the celebrated case in the 90s where OJ Simpson got a not guilty verdict in a court of law for the murder of his wife and friend.

But in a civil court he was ordered to pay money to the family for the murder of his wife. There they didn't have technicalities to free him. He was tried convicted and sentenced, because he was guilty. They just couldn't jail him. But they took a lot of his money and possessions.

In the states that happens quite often. The legal system can't punish you for murder because of a technicality but the civil courts can because you are guilty.

Like my Criminality instructor used to say when you go to court you will get legal. Not necessarily Justice.

shiver !!!!! this tells me more about the police state in america than how bad this guy is..

Is it actually legal to tempt someone into doing an illegal activity for the promise of hugh amounts of money then bust them when they say OK ?????

I'm sure we could find away to put 95% of the worlds polulation inside if this is the case....

At least in Phuket I sure many people would have said 'I'll do it' just so they could run away with any upfront payment.

The US gubbamint does not like any competition on their turf.

It appears that the noose is tightening on fugitives that think they can go off the radar in Thailand.

To make the charges even more hard to believe is the charge of attempting tosmuggle COCAINE from Asia to Western countries. Presumably the US. Only problem Cocaine does not get smuggled out of Asia but into it. To make such a rediculous charge gives us all a much clearer view of how jacked up these charges are. Dont forget these DEA criminals are under pressure to show results for the insane amounts of money wasted in the US's outdated, extremely expensive and ineffective War On Drugs that covers the entire planet. Hence the dubiously named : The World's Policemen. These so called agents are also all traind killers and kill innocent people every day in their "War". They take money in the end from the same people they arrest to either bodyguard or change testimony or not testify at all. They are a disgrace to the real police that go after the real more dangerous criminals the child rapists, murderers, pedophiles, armed robbers and men that like to beat on their wives and gf's. however these pose a way more serious threat that they would rather avoid. Much easier to bring a full combat platoon to arrest one guy at his country club home. Pathetic bunch. How do they sleep at night? Breaking up families and making orphans out of the poor victims kids. They didnt mention anything about the guys family

Good points and the "war" on drugs is obviously insane. When you know prohibition doesn't work. When you know that alcohol and cigarettes kill more people than any other drugs. All prohibition does is create unbelievable profits for the business men that run it.

People consciously and unconsciously die of drug taking, pharmaceutical and otherwise every day.

What does the war create?

A prison population.

It will be interesting to see how this case plays out. This guy and his associates may indeed be the bad guys they are portrayed to be, or could just be some blowhards yakking up how tough we are, "yeah man, if the price is right I'd take somebody out, blah blah." There's one in every bar.

We shall see. Meanwhile, Better call Saul! Or somebody like him.

For all we know this guy was a compete blowhard and wanted to rip off the money from the under cover agent. This will probably be his best defence.

Another instance where I CONDONE THE GOVT. AGENCIES INVADING MY PRIVACY. They're surely not interested in me (or many of you????), BUT you can see that it was an important tool for them in this case again.

You can't expect these agancies to do their job with their hands tied behind their back, let them use the tools they need (wire-tap / email survailance / etc.)................... They are ultra busy with these 'big guys' and not going to waste time with the little guys like us.................

I expect the US government to work in the US, then they can do whatever they want. It's already well established that there's no justice in the US these days and the bill of rights has been eroded to the point of irrelevancy.

My main issue is that an American team are working on the other side of the world in a foreign jurisdiction to entrap and send people for trial and almost guaranteed punishment in the US.

Why was this guy sent to the US ? If he comitted the supposed crime (conspiracy) in Thailand I would have thought the Thai police would be more than interested in prosecuting him.

I think the answer to this is that it was the American 'police' who did the investigation, they obviously regard Thailand as being under their jurisdiction otherwise he would have been prosecuted here in Thailand.

One day the Thais will wake up and wonder why there are teams of US government agents operating a shadow police force inside Thailand and sending people off to a foreign country for trial and imprisonment. I wonder if many of the Thais are even aware of this escalating situation.

Yes I agree with you. I don't think the law is stopping the Americans from doing anything lately.

Ridiculous statement. Somebody from the UK should know we live in a global society now. The legal system in the US is one of the best and most transparent in the world. Same as in your country.

If the US pursued this, they had a good reason. I'm sure the family of the targeted people are glad they did so. How would you feel if the targeted person was part of your family and your government did nothing to stop this murder? I'm sure you would have a different opinion.

Did you even read it ?

There were no targeted people, the whole thing was a manufactured sting operation.

Nobody was ever going to get killed under any circumstances as it was a setup from start to finish and they threw some drugs into the mix to justify the DEA working on it.
