Popular Post Amusements
That's about 500,000 baht at the moment. How long is a piece of string? My piece of string says....... If you end up with a "Lady" - 6 months tops. On your own - At least 1 year, providing you are living sensibly. Popular Post Firefan
A year sounds right (for me!). Is about Baht 40k/mth. Studio apt: 10000 Baht (near mrt/bts - w gym/pool) Utilities/Inet/mobile: 2000 Baht Transport: 3000 Baht (no home leaves - but trips to beach Incl.) Health insurance/vitamins/OTC meds/dental: 2000 Baht Groceries: 5000 Baht (Incl. foreign luxuries) Above basic costs adds up to 23k/mth Other: sports, sports gear, PC/phone repairs/upgrades, clothes all vary from month to month but let's say 5k to cover all and leave some buffer. Remaining 12k is for entertainment, eating out, gifts and so forth. Heck - maybe even some savings! Cheers!

Richie23
I think it depends where you live and what your lifestyle expectations are. Sure you can stretch it out for around a year but at the same time in bangkok if you want to go out to bars etc 2-3 times a week it could easily be gone in 2-3 months. yourauntbob
As others have said, it would depend on circumstances. If I was given it, allowed to quit my job, keep my current lifestyle but resume work when i ran out of funds = 1 year If I was out of work and didnt see any more in the near future = 18 months If it was an inheritance given to me on condition I enjoy myself with the money from my rich uncle = 2 months
Popular Post nickmanchester2
1 year get a condo for around 10,000b on a 1 year contract - you might be able to get a communal pool and gym for this - on your budget you will be reading a lot of books / staying in a lot, so you need somewhere OK.Electricity will be more expensive in condo - i'd say about 3000b a month including water, electric, mobile phone (get a smart phone as most of the girls have smart phones so free messaging on Line / Whatsapps) and internet (for your computer.food - about 4000b a month if you cook some meals yourself (will work out cheaper in the long run if you make at least 2 meals at home yourself per day - and it allows you to eat western food - I normally have oatmeal in the morning and sandwich in the afternoon). Only eat thai food when you go out as it will get expensive eating western - if you want western and are too lazy to cook yourself / cannot, then go to Burger King or 7-11 - you can get a meal in BK for 109b - 4000b a month is only 147b a day! that could be easily wiped out in just one western meal.Visa - I would recommend a Educational Visa which will run you at about 3000b a month and will give you about 3 hours of group lessons a week which will help you learn the language and also meet other western people - apply for ED visa in your home country before you leave.Transport - I would suggest public transport which is cheap depending where you end up living - Hua Hin is very cheap - you could get a 3 mile taxi ride home for 120b even at 3am - in Phuket, you would be looking at 600b - so stay out of the very touristy areas. You can get a local bus here for just 10b but they finish at 9pm - 1000b a month transport if public (much less dangerous than a bike).Insurance - if you are here long term, travel insurance will be an ExPat variety - I would say 2000b a month for this, again important. Dating site - very important to meet girls for free and take them on a date - try to average about 500b for the date - cost of a dating site is about 300b a month if you buy for 1 year.2000b misc - 66b a day for the odd trip to 7-11 for a coke, snacks, soap etc. entertainment A night out drinking - again depends on where you stay... in Hua Hin, you can drink beer in a bar for as cheap as 120b for 3 beers (buy 2 get 1 free bars) so you could go out every night for 3 beers or 6 if you like. in Phuket you could easily spend that on just 1 beer.Girls - if you dont want to go down the dating route, and you just want to get them from the bars then you could pay 1300b per night for 1 girl in Hua Hin - in Bangkok or Phuket can be 3 times this! Condoms are 55b for 3!So entertainment is going to be a massive variable - 3500b a week to play around with - it would be very easy to blow your budget if you are not careful here - If you dont want bar girls, then it would be a real money saver, if not.... then.....2 hookers per week at 2600 and 900b left over would allow you a couple of nights drinking yourself - or if you are using the dating site, then 4 dates a week which would be great and better than using the services of a bar girl in my opinion. If you end up getting a girlfriend, forget about this budget - you will have to change your lifestyle to look after them as they eat food and drink etc! I end up paying about 1500b a week on 1 regular girl which is 6000b a month more with birthdays etc.I think you should move to either Pattaya, Hua Hin or Chaing Mai on your budget if you dont like to party, then Isarn would be very cheap - no way Bangkok or Phuket - Koh Samui is 20% more expensive than the rest and also expensive taxis as well.If you want to get a motorbike, then be careful - hospital bills can be expensive - 1 person a day dies on Koh Samui which is a result of motorbike accidents - I know of 3 people personally.as you can see, its a tight budget that you have, but possible if you are not a big drinker/ don't use bar girls often - some months when I look at my thai bank statements, I am taking out 55000b+ a month, but I run a car, too big a house and drink too much.
