change side for parking

Featured Replies

In our street on one day we park on onse side of the road, the next day on the other side. So 1 side is always (mostly anyways) clar of cars and bikes.

We were just asked by traffic police to move all cars and bikes from one side of the street to the other. Apparently one of the princesses is in the area and passing through this street. But what I really don't get is the point of moving the cars and bikes, 2 cars can still pass (but I presume the whole street will be blocked anyway), why move?

I asked the neighbours and got the usual smiles when they don't know the answer to a question, but did not receive any answers.

Anybody got some ideas?

Maybe cars and bikes parked on the other side of the street is considered more "lucky." :) :)

They swap each day to make it even for all business. Well that's the old thinking and theory behind it.

Thais didn't want their shop parked out front of everyday and it was alternated to give shops exposure. Odd and even sides meaning this side on even dated days and the other on odd numbered days of the month.

Yes,I know that, thanks. What is the connection with moving because the princess is passing through the street?

Ummm. Security I'm guessing.

Bike bombs are common in the south and maybe she sits on the side of the car that has nothing parked.

Sometimes, they send out police, or security officials, to ask people to move their cars, check sewers and seal up man holes on the road, set up some barricades and man them etc etc - basically, make it really well known that this will be the "secured" route the principle will be taking.

Then, they take the principle a completely different route to their destination.

This being Thailand, they probably will be actually taking that route. :) :)

I would go with security.

Getting people to move their cars shows ownership, a bit like identifying your bags as you board an aircraft.

Any cars not moved to the other side of the road would be highly suspicious.

But, like I say, you are actually not going that route - remember???? smile.png

Since everybody moved the bikes in front of their shops, no matter who they belong to, that is not the reason.

Looks like also tv readers don't know the answer.
