snake24
Well i am sure everyone knows what sort of rep thailand has. It's like a brothel to many ppl and many ppl know what foreign men do when they visit thailand and it's even worse when the man the foreigner is a farang cos they stand out more. When thais see foreign men with thai ladies they just assume they are prostitutes. That sucks for those not actually with a prostitute of course but this thread isn't about that. There are obviously many thai ladies that are into the trade how else could thailand have a reputation for being the world's brothel or something along those lines. The ironic thing is this is regarded as shameful. That's why ***** is an insult but what's odd is there are so many women in the trade and it's considered shameful don't you find it really odd. This is where it doesn't make sense. If it is shameful in thai culture and in fact illegal for prostitution to occur in bkk why would so many thai ladies go into the trade? Wouldn't they be raised by their families to feel that it's shameful and thus not even consider being in the flesh trade? I read from one tv member in the talks talk shyt in your face thread about how the women in issan would call another woman a whore if they saw her with a farang man but then again aren't many issan ppl very poor and being a whore is a way out of poverty? It's also dumb that many thai families cannot figure out that their daughters are being whores in foreign countries or in the big cities. They usually lie to their families like maybe they went overseas to work in some office (duh!) or in bangkok to work in some office and suddenly they can afford to feed the entire family and buy many luxurious items and even have a foreign bf. Then they won't tell the truth to their family members obviously but surely they would know since it is thailand but it's also the same for other countries too. If let's say your daughter started becoming fabulously wealthy for no discernible reason it would usually involve sexual favors with some sugar daddy. Popular Post negreanu
So what you saying?? e-dog tong sic. the fact that you know that term as a foreigner and openly use it in a written example says a lot of about the type and quality of person you hang around with. Pretty harsh term to throw about openly.... Edited October 12, 2013 by negreanu

David48
Humm ... I feel a disconnect between the Title ... "The irony of the stereotype of foreigner with Thai girl relationships" ... and the OP which talks about Thai woman in prostitution in both Thailand and overseas. So which do you wish to discuss? .
Popular Post Radar501
Of course Mum and Dad in Somtamburi know what their daughter is getting up to in BKK. It goes something like this:
Popular Post kevozman1
I do not find it ironic really, a lot of foreign guys in Thailand do mess about or date bar girls/ex bar girls. Obviously there is also a decent percentage who find women from outside of the bar scene. I am too laid back a character these days to really worry about this kind of thing personally. Also in just about every country working as a hooker is looked at as shameful, In Thailand probably less shameful than most other countries Worldwide due to how open it can, especially the ones plying their trade towards tourists. I guess the girls generally do not openly talk about what they do with their families, probably not something they feel is a great discussion point to have with mum, even if she does know.
Popular Post zeichen
I find it ironic that there are threads ontop of threads about the lack or morality of Thais for allowing prostitution but not many about those that frequent the establishments. I say all the power to the vagina. If a woman is in control of her body and wants to profit from the weaknesses in men, then why judge her. If men were paid to have sex with women, it would be a socially acceptable professional. And many men would feel that would be an ideal world. As for Thais looking at foreigners with Thai and assuming their relationship isn't legitimate or that the woman is only after money, I really think that isn't true at all. Most Thais actually can tell what social class someone comes from in how they communicate and even carry themselves. I know in my relationship with my wife, we have never encountered ignorance from Thais but plenty from foreigners. The ones that judge are pretty much the ones that are doing just what they are judging others by. OP: Worry about your own self. pointing a finger at others leaves 3 pointing back at you.

Popular Post benalibina
THEY LIE TO THEIR FAMILIES !!! Big words you are using OP. There is no such thing as lying. Acceptance of told stories by familymembers is more correct. They dont care how the money has been brought in, as long as..........By telling a true story they make their pappas and mammas loose face. You know that is not done. Hence the told stories.

saakura
Prostitution is socially accepted here. Otherwise there are poor people in poverty in many other countries who do not take this easy route. Of course the parents and neighbours back in the village know very well which office in the city the daughter is working in.

Popular Post StreetCowboy
Whilst we're on the subject of bar-girls, has anyone been able to explain the principles of the offside rule to a bar-girl to the extent that she can properly understand rucking and mauling? Personally, I think league would be more easily understood, although Thailand is a staunchly union country. SC

i claudius
My wife and myself and our son have lived in The UK and in Thailand ,although she is younger than i am ,i do not think(judging by the way she has always been treated) that anyone has ever thought she was a prostitute , she is well dressed ,nicely spoken and had many British friends in the UK and has many Thai women friends of the same social standing as her here in Thailand , why would anyone think that? now if she was illeterate ,had tats all over and wore skimpy clothes while mixing with the same sort of girls ,i can see that anyone could think that no matter what her nationality And by the way i have quite a lot of friends here who are married to Thai ladies and although one is married to an ex bar girl(very polite she is as well) i am pretty certain none of them are married to ex hookers ,but if they are ,so what if they are happy. Popular Post Beetlejuice
I have 3 children with my Thai wife, 2 sons and 1 daughter. 1 son is a policeman, another son is studying to be a lawyer and my daughter works as an administrative secretary at the head office of a well-known bank. They are adults now, and since they were babies, although to me they are still my babies, no matter how big and ugly my sons are, I have always taken an active interest in their activities and welfare. I am a worldly man, done the rounds and not easily hoodwinked. If it was the scenario as described in the OP, than I would know about it, or would be extremely suspicious and investigate further. This is what good parenting is all about. Of course in 99% of cases, when a daughter becomes a woman of ill repute, the parents will know or at least be highly suspicious. Those who have claimed that they had no idea their daughter was on the game, I simply do not believe.Another point is; Western perspectives of the country have applied the idea that Thailand is the world’s biggest brothel. Mostly by the Western media, in movies, books and those who could be described as the enemies of Thailand. In fact, with the exception of Pattaya, which can be accurately described as a cesspit of crime and prostitution, which probably tarnishes the reputation of the whole country, prostitution in Thailand is not all that prevalent, except for those who go looking for it, and that can apply to all countries. Most decent working class, middle class and upper class Thai women would not consider hitching up with a deadbeat farang, they much prefer to keep to their own and mainly within their own class structures according to their circumstances and status within Thai society. There are some exceptions to the rule, but mainly the prostitute class originate from the underclasses of Thai society and should not be equated or compared with the general population as a whole. This again pertains to all nationalities in all countries.Because in the past and is still happening today, there are older predatory Western men that visit certain third world countries seeking out much younger girls, even minors in a lot of cases, has stuck in the minds of the people and when they see an aging gross farang walking hand in hand with a girl young enough to be his daughter or granddaughter, they automatically assume that the girl is a prostitute or only with the guy for financial benefits. I admit I am often guilty of making these judgements myself. In some cases they would be correct in their assumptions, in other cases they maybe wrong and too quick to judge, because the obvious is not always the fact. This is now a stigma for Thailand that has stuck and I must say that I too do not like the sight of seeing some old granddad getting intimate with some slutty looking young Thai girl out in public. But this doesn’t mean that the majority of Thais are of the same elk, as they too feel the same way and have the same or similar opinions as we do.
