This is just a heads up for all permanent residence holders. Bad news I am afraid.

This morning I renewed my registration and was told by the police administrator in charge that as from the end of this month the process will be transferred to an office of the Ministry of the Interior which will cover the whole country. It will no longer be allowed for the renewal to take place at a police station. However, a period of grace of one month will be allowed during the changeover.

The new Office is located at the Department of Provincial Administration which is close to Wat Rajabopit.

I am only passing on what was told to me by the police officer in charge, but he seemed pretty sure of his facts and clearly was fully conversant with the current procedure for renewal.

He did tell me that at the moment renewal is allowed for up to three months before the renewal date which could be useful to some.

I do not know any more than what I have stated above and have resisted the temptation to comment - I leave that to others.

Nam.

If this is true it is a bit of a blow to us oldies. It is a long way to Bangkok and the bus ride would be hard on my poor old back. But I do remember way back my wife doing it for me, so maybe she or someone else can do it for me. At least it is only once every five years. Unlike immigration the police are always nice and I usually share a meal with them while I'm waiting. Mine renewal is due next year so I will go and ask my local police station first if they can renew it and if not then I guess it is Bangkok. Please keep us informed

Agree, similar situation. My location is Chiang Mai. Luckily still have 2 out of the current 5 year block to go.

I'm sure it would be appreciated if other PR holders would share their experiences with this as they go through renewal.
