Verdict on Preah Vihear to be broadcast live

BANGKOK: -- The Foreign Ministry's Information Department yesterday held a meeting with state-run media on plans to broadcast live the International Court of Justice (ICJ)'s verdict on Preah Vihear Temple.

As requested by the Cambodian government, the ICJ is scheduled to hand down its verdict on the interpretation of the temple's vicinity on November 11.

State-run television stations as well as the website, www.phraviharn.org, will provide live coverage of the verdict session.

Thailand too prosperous to qualify for development donations: EuropeAid

Court sets date for charter change trial

BANGKOK: -- The Constitutional Court will begin hearing the case against charter amendment on November 8 from 10am, the court said in a press release yesterday.

Democrat MPs Wiratana Kalayasiri and Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, along with senators led by Sai Kanggawekin, have filed complaints against 312 MPs and senators who back the amendment of the Constitution's clauses related to the election and qualifications of senators.

They say this proposal is unconstitutional according to Article 68, which prohibits the overthrowing of a constitutional monarchy and a democratic administrative system.

Nakhon Ratchasima 'flooded due to rain'

BANGKOK: -- The flooding in Nakhon Ratchasima's Muang district can be blamed on the 100 millimetres of rain brought by the storm Nari and not on the release of water from upstream Lam Takhong Dam, the Royal Irrigation Department's Water Watch and Monitoring System for Warning Centre said yesterday.

BANGKOK: -- The woman who made up to Bt5 million by luring people into paying for Furby dolls that were never delivered, was sentenced to a suspended three-year jail term. The verdict was reduced from 75 years behind bars after she returned the money to all 25 victims and pleaded guilty.

Provincial Administration chief hands out ammunition to Yala security volunteers

YALA, 25 Oct 2013 (NNT) – Department of Provincial Administration chief Siriphong Hantrakun has visited security volunteers in Yala on Thursday to boost the morale of the volunteers in 8 districts.


Mr. Siriphong met with territorial defense volunteers and village security volunteers who assembled at the volunteers' forward operations center in Tha Sap sub-district, Mueang district, Yala province. On the occasion, the director-general handed out survival equipment, ammunition and vests to representatives of the volunteers who operate in the 8 districts of Yala.

There are currently 10 regiments of territorial defense volunteers in Yala, which together comprise 1,974 persons. On the other hand, there are 11,370 village defense volunteers in the province. Taken together, the volunteers provide an important source of manpower in helping soldiers and police officials maintain order in the insurgency-plagued province.

The weak westerly trough moved over the North causing rainfall remains in the lower North and the Central today (25 Oct). The rather strong high pressure from China extends to the upper North and the Northeast of Thailand leading cool weather with 2-3 ?C drops likely in the areas.

The low pressure covers the lower South and the Malaca Strait causing torrential rain, as well as isolated heavy rain in the South during the period.
