Banks to close on Dec 30
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Bank of Thailand has announced that December 30 would be an extra New Year holiday, which would extend the holiday period to 5 days.

The maximum period of holiday period for financial institutions in Thailand has so far been four days, to ensure no business disruption. The government earlier declared December 28-31 and January 1 as the New Year holiday period, for government agencies and state enterprises. Most companies’ holiday period depends on the working days of financial institutions.

In an announcement, the central bank said that this would support the tourism industry and boost the overall economy. It said announcing the holiday period in advance would allow enough time for adjustment among business companies. Thus, this should not send a significant impact on the financial sector and the economy.

It also noted that though Dec 30 is declared a holiday, financial institutions can consider opening some branches, like those at shopping malls, on the condition that the institutions’ employees are properly taken care of.

I wonder when they start declaring a holiday of all those holidays. Combined with the need of salary payments on 30th as well as high demand of change for the hospitality industry I suggest that all fellow hospitality operators get their financials in order at xmas latest!
Or - alternatively - pay salaries on the 2nd which might ensure, that at least some of the staff will have some cash left to carry them through January 2014!

How can an extra days holiday boost the tourism industry? And does that mean that these next 14 days will boost it even more?
