I recently acquired a new desktop computer and yesterday upgraded from Windows 8.1 Preview (which I basically didn't use, awaiting the 'official' 8.1). On my old computer, which ran Windows 7, I utiilized Avast, Advanced System Care, YTD downloader, UMPlayer - all downloaded from www.cnet.com. Now, I am wondering can I, should I, download these products (if they would work on Windows 8.1) or not?

So, if anyone has experience/knowledge in this area, I would appreciate and info, thoughts.. Thanks biggrin.png

PS Not knowing what I should do, I am inclined to give it a try.

You have good virus protection and spyware protection built in. So you do not need Avast. I would leave it a while to see if you need the others as many things heal themselves with inbuilt self monitoring.

Microsoft themselves are now saying that MS Security Essentials/Defender only offers basic protection. I recommend adding something extra like Avast.

Advanced System care is probably pointless and VLC has got to be the best free all-round media player available (along with Foobar2000 for audio, naturally).

AIMP3 trumps Foobar2000 for me.
