I have recently received a replacement British Passport that is valid from 11 October 2013. My old British Passport which I have retained has been cancelled electronically and contains the following important stamps:

  1. My Non Immigrant Type "O" Visa that expired on 21 August 2009 (extended initially via retirement and later through marriage).
  2. My Marriage Visa Extension valid until 06 August 2014.
  3. My Multiple Re-entry Permit valid until 06 August 2014.
  4. My last entry stamp dated 15 September 2013 and valid until 06 August 2014.

My next 90 Day Report is due 13 December 2013 in Udonthani.

My question is can I wait until 13 December 2013 to get the above stamps transferred from my old Passport to my new Passport?

We work in Bangkok so I don't want to have to make an extra trip before the 90 Day report is due just for this. I do realize that if I had to travel outside Thailand between now and 13 December 2013 that I would have to get the stamps transferred before I travel.

I have obtained a Letter from the British Embassy in Bangkok dated 22 October 2013 confirming that I have a new Passport and that my old Passport has been cancelled.

Many thanks to all for any help.

It advisable to get the stamps transfered as soon as possible.

You can wait until December if you want to but you could have problems at immigration.

Remember you would need to have both passports if stopped for some reason and were for asked your passport.

This recently introduced new immigration procedure applies to extensions of stay:

Starting from 26 August 2013, the visa extension will be permitted only up to the expiry date of the applicant's passport, if the remaining validity of the passport is less than one year. When new passport is obtained or renewed, a new application is needed. The visa extension will NO longer be automatically transferred onto the new passport.

The re-entry permit is not mentioned in the above-linked announcement but since a new extension is now necessary with a new passport it follows that also a new re-entry permit must be obtained. Members' reports indicate, however, that some immigration offices recently still transferred stamps to the new passport. I believe I saw one such post only two or three days ago.

That only applies if you apply for a new extension and have less than 12 months remaining on your passport.

They still transfer the stamps even for the short extensions when you get a new passport and then you go back when shortened extension runs out and apply.

"I have obtained a Letter from the British Embassy in Bangkok dated 22 October 2013 confirming that I have a new Passport and that my old Passport has been cancelled."

1. How does one go about that

2. What is required

3. How much does it cost

4. Is it necessary

Thanx.

It depends upon your status at immigration. If you have an extension of stay you have to have the transfer done at immigration. If on a visa or visa exempt entry then you just show both passports when you leave the country.

Their is no charge for the transfer. If you have an extension you need the following.

Fill out this form: http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/transferstamp.doc

Make copies of both passport photo pages. Old passport I advise making a copy of every page that has a Thai visa, entry stamps, re-entry permit and extensions of stay. And your TM6 departure card.
