Nexus 5 Thailand network compatibility

The new Nexus 5 lists frequency availability as GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz.

My understanding is that the Thailand 3G frequency allocation is in the 2100 MHz band.

Will this phone be usable in Thailand?

Yes. Both variants, D820 and D821, will work here on GSM, 2G, 3G, 4G/LTE (TrueMove H/2100 MHz).

Nexus 5 Full Specs

(D820) North America:

GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10

WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19

LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41

(D821) Rest of World:

GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8

LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20

For Thailand you would need:

GSM 900/1800

WCDMA: Band 1 (2100 MHz) and Band 5 (850 MHz)

LTE: Band 1 (TrueMove H 2100 MHz)

As you can see both variants would be sufficient. A lot depends on what other countries you might travel to, which variants you have access to purchasing, and when/if LTE/1800 MHz (Band 3) becomes available here in Thailand.

I am under the impression that the U.S. Play Store is selling the D820 variant only. Not sure where/when/if the D821 will be available, but assume some of the regional Play Stores will sell that variant, and that if LG/Thailand localizes the GNEX5 they will offer the D821.

Not important or relevant for Thailand as the sole provider of 3G/900 MHz is AIS, and you'd be better off using their 2100 MHz service.

But both variants do support 3G/900 MHz (WCDMA Band 8), so no problem.
