The Sunday Nation

A total of 32 people were killed and 72 others wounded in 118 incidents of southern unrest during October, Prince of Songkla University's Deep South Watch (DSW) has reported.

The unrest continued yesterday with the latest victim a former assistant village headman, who was shot dead in Yala's Bannang Sata district. The shooting of Hama Marana, 51, took place at 2am in Tambon Bacho as he was returning home from a rubber plantation. He was shot by an unknown assailant.

DSW reported that from October 1-31, there were 37 attacks in Narathiwat that killed 21 people and wounded 31 others; 56 incidents in Pattani that killed six people and injured 26 others; and 21 incidents in Yala that killed five people and injured 15 others. Songkhla saw four incidents but reported no deaths or injuries. The most

This whole mess has been handled very badly from the start,

when the Government said they were just bandits, and it has

gone down hill after that, and now the Government does not

seem to know what to do to solve the problem.Blimps, fake

bomb detectors are not the answer.

Yes, because they continue to categorise and count each incident in isolation. These are not one-off incidents (or 'crimes'' as we've seen them called in the past) - they are further acts conducted as part of an ongoing situation.

Counting and pigeon-holing them makes no difference .. even if they decrease this month the situation has worsened by the very fact that it still exists.

Yes and white washing |Thaksin will just increase the problems.

A part of the solution would be to send Tthaksin down there to explain his actions in the massacre of over 80 Muslims. I don't think the Amnesty bill will cover him for that.

What with the stance the present Government has taken in regards to Abhist being the Prime Minister in the 2010 armed with guns and rocket launchers and using them of the red shirt peaceful protests it would only naturally follow that Thaksin was guilty of the over 80 deaths. There fore he should be charged.wai.gif

In the other English language newspaper it stated if the bill is passed, Thaksin would be not have to answer for the Krue Se Mosque & Tak Bai incidents as well as the 2,500 extrajudicial killings during his War on Drugs.

Why am I not surprised?sad.png

I do believe though that some person will hold him accountable for his actions and take iit on them selves to act as Judge Jury and Executioner. Provided he is dumb enough to come back.whistling.gif

If Thailand was smart they would sell the whole Muslim south area to Malaysia. It probably should have always belonged to them.

It's not worth the life of another Thai soldier.

If not, sooner or later this conflict is going to blowback into the rest of Thailand!
