'Cool' invention wins first place at MADMEC
Thermoelectric bracelet that helps people maintain a comfortable body temperature takes home $10,000 from MIT’s annual materials-science design competition.

Heating or cooling certain parts of your body — such as applying a warm towel to your forehead if you feel chilly — can help maintain your perceived thermal comfort.
Using that concept, four MIT engineering students developed a thermoelectric bracelet that monitors air and skin temperature, and sends tailored pulses of hot or cold waveforms to the wrist to help maintain thermal comfort.
For this invention, the team, called Wristify, took home the $10,000 first prize at this year’s MADMEC, MIT’s annual materials-science design competition, held Tuesday afternoon.

Thermoelectric wristband could reduce your air con/heating bills

A new wrist worn device called the Wristify recently won the 7th annual MADMEC competition held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The device uses a miniature Peltier cooler which can be used to make you feel comfortable on a hot or a cold day using a thermoelectric effect.
You were probably told as a child, overheated from playing out in mid-summer, to put your wrists under a cold tap to help you quickly feel cool and comfortable.
