I'm in for a Volvo V40S but the resale value concerns me a lot.

I would like to know if there are any Volvo owners here who have experience of owning and re-selling Volvo in Thailand.

Please let us know experience of repairs, spare parts and how difficult it was to sale as secondhand.

Thanks,

T

Have never owned a Volvo, but for an quick idea, a 1 year old S60 Drive-S which sold for 2.15M new is now worth around 1.5M, by the time it's out of warranty it'll likely have dropped to 700-800 Baht.

You don't buy a Volvo in Thailand if you're concerned about resale, you buy it to be different.

I am also lokking at the V40. Let me know if you managed to get a good deal. Thanks.

Even as I know the old "boss" (moved back but still some boss at Volvo) he couldn't give me any different deal. :-(

Thanks for sharing. My consideration is the total cost of ownership. And it seems that Bmw 116i with 5 years Bsi at 1.99 million baht seems most favourable at the moment.

Nice but underpowered. A Merc CLA250 with 210HP at 2.6mbaht locks interesting, but one years waiting list does not.

Yes, 1.6 turbo is underpowered to me. I have test driven the A250 and V40. The A250 just dosen't feel fast for some strange reason. A250 suspension is also stiffer. But the interior is nicer than V40 in my opinion. But both have 3 years warranty and the price gap is too big for me to swallow. But the resale of Benz should be better.

For the Bmw 116i, there are plug n play aftermarket piggyback to boost the power by another 20%. The Kellener Power module is one such product.

AC Schnitzer offer a tuning piggyback that extracts 200bhp from the twinpower turbo engine.

Easy to install and no other mods required. 2 year warranty from Schnitzer and shouldn't invalidate your BMW warranty (need to confirm this).

Rear wheel drive, 200bhp, 8-speed gearbox (one of the best available on the market) and adaptive dampers have all but sold this car to me. I am now debating whether to go for this or the Volvo because there's still a lot to play for yet. I might still end up with a more expensive 3-series (which again all have the Schnitzer piggyback available). I don't like the front of the 1er and there's not much space in the rear but I could live with those negatives.

116i would be made better with the addition of a leather interior, paddle shifters and bigger rims which weren't on the M Sport version we drove. The sales lady told me they would get their English speaking staff to contact me so I can get answers to all these questions.

Front wheel drive and rumoured nasty gearbox on the Mercedes CLA-250 are putting me off, coupled with the unacceptable year long wait. I still have to test drive it though. It's a looker and will hold value. Guaranteed to turn more heads than the 1er.

So what else? Spoke to Toyota today and they said they didn't have an 86 to test drive so that's a non-starter.

Anyone?

Agree on your views on 116i and A250. For 116i, they ahd have kitted the 4/2 pot M brake kit on the front/rear. This would then required bigger rims. The DCT gearbox of the A250 needs getting used to.
