Hi everyone,

I'm living in Thailand since little more than 2 years, I stayed 8 months under educational visa then 18 months under a business visa. My contract won't be renew and I would like to stay here until to find a new job.

After a so long staying is it possible to get a tourist visa? During a time it was not allowed to stay more than 6 months in thailand under tourist visa, that's why the first time I took an educational visa. Is it still the same rule?

My contract will end in one month so I have to decide if I should take an educational visa or a tourist visa, I would like to stay in Koh Chang but after few research I didn't find any school.

Thanks for your help

It has never been any max 6 months in Thailand if you have a visa.

That rule applied for visa exempt stamps and was revoked 2008.

For a tourist visa, best option is to travel to Vientiane and get a double entry.

Apply before lunch and receive after lunch next day.

Although Phnom Phen is closer they only issue single entry and processing time is 4 days.

What a relief, thanks for your answer, I was worried to be stuck in another country while trying to get a visa and lose all my stuff in Thailand. I will proceed this way, go to Vientiane.

Dear wayned,

Thank you very much for your answer, It will be my first visa run.

I have a question as I am quite confused.

I already have a VISA O and the website you showed me propose 2 services,

Visa Renewal Services to Cambodia & Laos Visa Application – Bangkok to Vientiane/Lao PDR.

Which one should I choose ?

I honestly have car sick and prefer to go to Cambodia instead of Laos but only if I had the option.

Thanks in advance.

If you have a valid multiple entry non-o you just need to cross any border and return to use your visa for another entry. In this case Cambodia is fine.

If visa is expired then Vientiane for a tourist visa.
