PATTAYA: -- An American National, born in the Czech Republic, was arrested for the second time during his reported 15 year stay in Thailand, late on Tuesday Night, accused of stealing a 210 Baht packet of Goats Cheese from a North Pattaya Supermarket.

Police were called to the Best Supermarket by its owner, Khun Siriporn aged 65, after security guards had detained Mr. Frank Joseph Janalik aged 74 after he was seen by the guards attempting to leave with the Goats Cheese without making any effort to pay for the item. Security Camera footage of the alleged theft was also given to Police.

Khun Siriporn claimed Mr. Janalik had been coming to the Supermarket for a long time and she suspected he had been shoplifting on many occasions but he had yet to be caught-in-the-act. On this occasion she spotted the man and ordered her Security Guards to follow him.

At Pattaya Police Station Mr. Janalik claimed he has lived in Pattaya for 15 years.

Give the guy a break, he most likely forgot he even picked it up in the first place.

Owner suspected he was stealing but could not catch him ? Sorry but a total drivel, not so hard to check someone daily

How do you " check someone daily "?rolleyes.gif

The article says “Khun Siriporn claimed Mr. Janalik had been coming to the Supermarket for a long time and she suspected he had been shoplifting on many occasions but he had yet to be caught-in-the-act. “

Supermarket owners probably get a good sense for what is happening within their own environment. Sounds pretty incriminating to me

It's always pointed out not to point a finger at others in Thailand because it's considered rude and they obviously don't like it. So then why the hell they do it to others if they don't want it to be done to them? And it's not an excuse that they do it to arrested individuals. You said don't do it so don't do it. I like Thais but they are so childish.

It's part of the pre-punishment procedure.

Easy , when you suspect someone is stealing, you check their bags every time they come to visit.

If you suspect someone is stealing by keeping it in them, you follow them on each visit .

To say he was most likely stealing all other times is just plain silly, considering he is 75 and they did not seem to check on him prior.

He may well be a thief , just saying

oh my ....... he needs 3 months in jail , 50,000 baht fine and community services ....... for a pack of goat cheese.. cheesy.gif

...while Thais get a 500 Baht fine for an attack with a deadly weapon?

It's normally just an official caution in Melbourne, Australia for 1st offence and if the value doesn't exceed $100 (AUD) Admit the offence and the caution will be issued at the police station.
