Showbags
Perhaps she is pointing at him because he "cut the cheese" rather than steal it? that would be easier to swallow (no pun intended) Oh dear alt=biggrin.png width=20 height=20> No, goat. Tchooptip
A 74 year old male caught stealing, or suspected of stealing a 210 baht goat cheese pack and thrown in a holding cell for how long? What sort of jail sentence and fine can this guy expect, insane. The financial hardship caused to the owner must be negligible. This is nothing more than a petty crime. Just pay the 210 baht and walk. Thousand of small shops around the world go bankrupt every year due to irresponsible shoplifters who, like you, believe its a nothing but a petty crime. I am convince shoplifting is a real sociale plague !
Tchooptip
all this for 210 baht??? If I was the shop owner, I would not even call the police for that. This is ridiculous. It is not about the money, it is about the principle!Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand I understand what you are saying But to be practical, if I was a shop owner, I dont think 210 baht is worth the hassle and the time to bring the story to the police. And come on... this is reported in the newspapers?? "But to be practical, if I was a shop owner, I dont think 210 baht is worth the hassle"It seems you did not read OP: Security Camera footage of the alleged theft was also given to Police... ...Khun Siriporn claimed Mr. Janalik had been coming to the Supermarket for a long time and she suspected he had been shoplifting on many occasions but he had yet to be caught-in-the-act. On this occasion she spotted the man and ordered her Security Guards to follow him.
ultimate weapon
She's pointing at him. It must be true.. I'm so happy that this criminal mastermind had had his face aired to the world. honestly why so defensive? I suspect that there is a large amount of shoplifting by farangs that goes undetected here. Security in most supermarkets appears to be very lax, especially given the very high cost of some small imported food items. Wow careful you don't offend the TV posters in here that deem that farang won't steal because after all their money is big big especially when converted to thai money why would they steal. It's always pointed out not to point a finger at others in Thailand because it's considered rude and they obviously don't like it. So then why the hell they do it to others if they don't want it to be done to them? And it's not an excuse that they do it to arrested individuals. You said don't do it so don't do it. I like Thais but they are so childish. She pointed at him cos he is a thief. Besides the cameraman took the pic at that moment the thing is why the hell are you chastising the woman when it's the farang that is in the wrong. Give the guy a break, he most likely forgot he even picked it up in the first place. Owner suspected he was stealing but could not catch him ? Sorry but a total drivel, not so hard to check someone daily Wow really? They had the cctv footage i suppose thta was probably doctored.

And come on... this is reported in the newspapers?? It isn't the cost of the item. It's the action. Let's change it to the US. A foreigner comes to some US supermarket and steals say a packet of skittles, some of those snack foods and they cost even less than 200 bht yes he deserves to get arrested and charge. Will they bring the story to the news. Well it depends if they want to they certainly could. That occured in chiangmai in the provinces and not the capital so things are quieter there. It's like a foreigner goes to one of the backwoods towns in the US and steals the chances of it appearing in the news is greater.
puukao
This is now headline news on CNN. Possibility of 35 years in prison, 1 million dollar baht fine, and 11 years of manual labor at the rock quarry. The Pentagon is involved; however, we now have 11 CIA agents in Pattaya on a double-secret mission. cost to US taxpayers: 11 million. ultimate weapon
StoryWriter: please do not use the single descriptor "American" in title of story. The man is not an American. Is he travelling on a American passport, The only true Americans are the Indians from what I was taught in history. Why is that...didn't they come from Asia? That would make them Chinese, Mongolian, or Russian perhaps. UMMM I think he means these Indians red ind.jpg Not like this one .... ghandi.jpg You should learn from lisa lampanelli when she differentiated them. Casino indian not 7-11. I'm not on any ones side here, maybe he did steal a Goats cheese, but it should be inadmissible evidence to say"she suspected he had been shoplifting on many occasions" It's the equivalent of declaring someone's previous convictions before the trial starts. A sure way to get the case thrown out of Court.

TheWizardofRnR
I can't help wonder if the , Dare I say old guy here , but I forget I'm one too, I guess at Route 66 years of age ! So let me add this. He does look like he's not on the same page with all of us! He definitely may be suffering from Oldheimer's! Where he may be a kleptomaniac these days, and have no idea he's even doing an act of thievery. So I hope they check on his mental health, before they start prosecuting & persecuting him. He just looks like he might have that "lost look" on his face and isn't playing with a Full Deck.
