BANGKOK: -- The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship or the red-shirt movement plans to hold mass rallies in Bangkok and its peripheries this week, said Mr Worachai Hema, Pheu Thai MP for Samut Prakan and a core leader of the movement, on Tuesday.

He said that the rallies planned for this week in Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan were meant to convey a message to former Democrat MP Suthep Thuagsuban that “Thailand does not belong to just 40,000-50,000 people and there are many other people who will not let the government to be toppled”.

But he assured that the red shirt followers would not confront the anti-government protesters and the rallies would be peaceful.

Referring to the resignation of Suthep and eight other Democrats as members of the parliament in order to lead the protests, Worachai said that their resignation amounted to a defiance against parliamentary system with a malicious intention to overthrow the government.

He added that he expected more Democrat MPs to follow suit by quitting from parliamentary memberships.

He accused these Democrats of committing treason for their attempt to topple the government.

Get it through your thick red skulls. Treason is betraying one's country. Being against a useless and corrupt government isn't treason. If anything, it's being patriotic.

Also, attempting to bring about an amnesty of 25,000+ cases of corruption and political criminals who have harmed the nation is treason.

Treason doth never prosper. What's the reason?
For if it prosper, none dare call it "treason."
In other words, the victors write history, and the losers -- especially in Thailand -- get hung out to dry.
I believe we are fast approaching one of those moments in modern Thai history where backing down has ceased to be an option for either side, and the inevitable result will be more corpses in the street.

Most people are so poor they only think about money and free luxuries for granted.

They keep believing the same old promising white lies and policies, no matter how many times they get screwed over.

Now THAT is what I call beyond brain damaged propaganda-washed stupidity by the Pro-Thaksin groups...

Suthep calls for a strike and 50,000 red shirts leave their job. Doh!

I am sure his lawyers are preparing defamation charges for those claiming he is committing treason. Hopefully, tharit will not be able to change the definition, as he did with perjury.

One factor neither side seems to be considering is that this weekend is Loi Kratong. Many people who live in Bangkok will be absent this weekend. After a holiday celebrating tranquility, among other things, I wonder how many that were only protesting the amnesty will not come back. If they go home, the reds go home, and tyhe ridilousness of this whole thing goes away until the next election.

I am hoping both sides have the wind taken out of their bloody sails and the famous query comes to pass: 'What if they held a war and nobody came?'

The snag is that these things are seldom anything but. They bring traffic chaos to down town BKK and are a frightful strain on already strained resources...it took my neighbour 5 hours to get home last Friday...all for some stuffed shirt to have a chance to puff his chest out and show the world how Thai he is....

Ten thousand red shirts turned out last night at the 700 year stadium in Chiang Mai. Our old mate Jatuporn was there firing up the crowd along with local federal mp Yaowapha WongSawat. They were ranting on about democracy and how it should be protected and that Yingluck and her government were democratically elected by the people.

Any violence? Was anything you quoted above untrue? No? So what's your problem?

You are so full of contempt! Thick skulled? Thugs? Yeah you guys are so smart and educated, right? You have it all figured out. You want to be associated with the well-off Bangkokian society so bad. Be quality expats not like these losers in the provinces with their red shirt bar-girl girlfriends! Our girlfriends are half-Chinese! So you're on strike? Gonna go to the people-court?

While I wouldn't phrase it quite like that, but it is disappointing that so many seem to side with the privileged elites of Thailand and show contempt for those less privileged.

So blinkered! The red rent-a-mob are blindly following a privileged fugitive criminal. THAT is "showing contempt for the less privileged".

It is not just the Bangkok folks who are against the present government I know plenty of working people in Chiang mai who are against this government and see it for what it is, a power grab by the Shinawatras
