Mazda RX8 nissan SR20DET turbo engine high fuel consuption revisited

Thank you for all the people who replied to my previous posting.

I think I would have a better idea what the problems might be, having an understanding of the workings of the mechanics and electronics.

This car only does 4km liter, apparently set up for racing.

Spark plugs sooted up, black sooty exhaust, compressions ok 150 psi cold, car starts first time no problem, very quick off the mark, good acceleration.

It is a long time ago now since I rebuilt engines, then setting the timing up with a strobe tach dwell meter.

On a modern day car

What governs the amount of fuel sent to the injectors,

What governs the ignition timing,

The turbo, is this governed by the same mechanism or separately.

Ok....i have a question....you have a rx8 with an sr-20 nissan motor?

so confirm that your rx8 motor is not the rotary.

fuel going into engine is governed by the ecu. (other than the ecu, you have the pump's).

Ignition timing is also governed by the ecu.

Sparkplugs, you need to ensure what number you are using and type (iridium or what?)

Turbo on a SR20 is governed by the swing valve mechanical wastegate & ecu tuning is also reflective on how the boost comes on.

do you have any photos of the engine and setup. are you sure the ecu installed in this car is the std sr20 ecu? because i highly doubt a RX8 with an sr20 is using a std ecu but rather a AEM, Greddy, HKS, Motec type piggyback/ecu. which in all means you can get the car tuned for a couple thousand baht.

the turbo on the sr20, is it std? pictures will help alot.....

The turbo is a greddy TD06-20G.

Hope this additional information is helpful.
