Naturalized foreigners are just a way for Thailand to placate other nations and convince others it is a democracy and not as xenophobic as we know it to be!

So its an experiment...

I met a few English guys who were on about how they were mixed in with the red shirts during the big protests a few years ago. Seemed like a dumb thing to get involved in, here or anywhere were you are not a citizen. No fun being sent home in a body bag with a note saying "killed during protest that was not about him, didn't achieve the goals that had nothing to do with him and wouldn't have had anything to do with him had they succeeded. RIP."

Thais have to sort this out themselves.

For someone that lives, works, pays taxes, has family in Thailand, what is wrong with them having a view and being involved with what they beieve in?

I didn't say not to have a view on the subject. When the shizen was running thick a few years ago, Thais would ask me what I thought and I would answer as long as I didn't feel it was a hostile environment. (doesn't matter really since I think both sides are full of it). You are completely entitled to an opinion about it. 100%.

However, that is different to running in the streets with a mob of yellow, red, pink, black, gray, purple, fuscia, burnt sienna-colored shirt wearing people. They are struggling for things inside their country. You are risking your life and health for something that ultimately isn't about you.

Yeah, it determines, to some extent, the way the country you currently reside in will look like, but you won't do anyone any benefit by being out there. Your wife and children won't benefit. The government won't benefit. The guys you are protesting with on either side might not even benefit (not going into the reasons). You surely won't benefit if you are injured or killed.

Write a letter to the editor make a blog and just talk to people. Even those are murky waters, but more manageable.

I could go on about this but I think the above should be clear enough.

While I agree that it sounds like a bad idea to become involved in the demonstrations, I don't believe that it is illegal for foreigners to do so. But if I'm wrong about that, I'm sure that someone will be able to provide a link to the law that makes it illegal.

Unless one was drunk and mistook the protest for a party. Can happen.

Or just thought it looked like fun.

Or thought the protestors had a point. Or two.

common sense should have a little bearing here surely

Naturalised 'foreigners' ... makes them not foreigners ... hello?

Correct, it makes them Thai. Since Thai is in fact a nationality.......

,....same same as being a Farangeland national in your own country.

what kind of mental case would protest anywhere let alone as a foreigner here in Thailand? I know!!! Football hooligans!! Wow what an answer that would be if the UK could send it's footbal hooligans and nutters to join in the festivities in BKK, I'm sure some red/yellow/purple or whatever colour shirts could arrange them non B visas!!!!... sorry, I got carried away a bit there..

That would be a bit unfair:

In yellow shirts, Wolves and Norwich

In red shirts, Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, Stoke, Sunderland, Cardiff, Villa, West Ham........

Foreign protestors?  Some foreigners are naturalized citizens so they have the right if they wish.   More accurate would be those on permission of stay stamps are not allowed.  Guess that guy shouting out burn Central and steal everything has set a bad example. Posted Image

I bet immigration get hours of laughter, reading this site.

Particularly,Visa issue's,girlfriend/wife problems.

More than likely some are active posters.

There are plenty of Yanks on here. Still to meet one of them who understood irony!

For those foreigners who wish to support either side, you can only help by giving money.

Giving money is 100% legal as attending personally is not. Any immigration officer should be able to confirm this.

There are only around 150 new ones every year and farangs account for only 5-10%. They can vote 5 years after naturalization but can never hold any public office.

Easier said than done. With the amount of colour-inspired protest movements in this country, it's hard to pull a t-shirt out of the wardrobe that doesn't align with some kind of local political group. Red, yellow, blue, black... is there any colour any of these people haven't taken as their own?

Wow, what a hornet' nest.

No, I am not a spy, but since being informed protesting farangs are not legal and may be arrested, felt that a few of the wild ones that visit here should be warned in advance.

The polarization here is not much different than the states, and the way out for both countries is fuzzy.
