"without the usual video-linked speech by ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra"

Perhaps he's busy looking for his balls, in the sand-pit ? tongue.png

A nation's despairing leader looks helplessly on from his bunker as his grand design crumbles and his once devoted followers turn against him.

I'm sure something like this happened before somewhere......?

And every sane Thai citizen has a secret prayer in his heart that goes something like this; Please Lord Buddha, when this happens, let the Military step in and let them have the common sense to dissolve all the political parties involved. Please Lord Buddha let them choose wisely when forming a new political party, let them choose the best, let them choose people that are void of corruption, let them choose people that want to serve the country and not their pockets. Please Lord Buddha, help us, least our country falls back into the stone age.

100,000 demonstrate to remove 312 MPs, senators
By English News

BANGKOK, Nov 20 – More than 100,000 people have officially endorsed the impeachment of 312 MPs and senators, former Democrat MP Ekkanat Prompan said today.

He said the latest count at 10 pm last night confirmed the figure, and the authenticity as well as documents of 40,000 names were already checked.

There will be more supporters from the provinces including 3,000 additional signatures from the southern province of Chumphon, he said.

He said former MP Suthep Thaugsuban, leading the Democracy Monument demonstration, is scheduled to submit the petition calling for impeachment at Parliament this afternoon.

Mr Ekkanat called on all factions to respect the Constitution Court’s ruling and stop threatening the judges.

He was referring to Red Shirt protesters at Rajamangala Stadium who announced that they may mobilise their supporters onto city streets if the court judgement is not in their favour.

The Constitution Court is scheduled to decide today if the ruling Pheu Thai Party breached the Constitution in passing a bill requiring all members of the Senate to be elected, and no longer having some appointed members as stipulated in the Constitution.

Mr Ekkanat said Samran Rat police arrested Komut Suetrong for creating a disturbance at the Democracy Monument rally site yesterday. (MCOT online news)

Somehow this does not strike me as sounding like a peaceful mobilization on the streets and certainly not what tourists will want to be greeted by in the fast approaching "high season". Just sounds like trouble.

Unless those tourists wander into the Rajamangala Stadium there's not much chance of them coming across red shirts as opposed to the three other groups of assorted "citizens" wandering around at will and blocking Bangkoks hallowed streets.

Best news of the day. Let's hope the reds stay put because we know what they are capable of when you unleash them... partytime2.gif.pagespeed.ce.V_K7hML3fS.p

Whilst i dont disagree that this would be a welcome scenario, you would have to be brain dead to expect the military to do something sensible, non corrupt and for the good of the country.

The military need to remain firmly on the outside. The people need to sort this out for themselves. The military provides on a very short term solution and will only start the whole cycle off again.

Military intervention is the worst possible outcome, although it would certainly reinvigorate the UDD with a cause, and prove Jatuporn and Co as being right all along.

If PTP are removed in a political scenario, or a universally agreed on compromise if found with relative peace Thailand's long term outlooks are much improved. Which is somehing all people who live here; (Thais and expats alike) should want.

I agree that the people should sort it out. But I think, Thaksin continues is the worst possible outcome, blood on the street might be also the worst possible outcome.

While military intervention isn't a nice solution, it isn't that bad. How many coups did Thailand have and still everything is OK.

Balls, what balls, if he had balls he would be back in Thailand leading his cause to be emperor, he would be standing up proud at the front of the mob, but instead where is he - cowering like a mangy cur well out of harms way but certainly well prepared to offer up any idiots who want to fight his fight for a few hundred Baht.

Jon Clark, i 100% agree with you.

H90 i 100% disagree with you- how many coups has Thailand have, what is the situation we are in now? Why would a coup again change anything, it would just start the vicious circle again and push more and more persons to TS. All the crap that is talked about Bangkok elites, military interference etc would just be further entrenched in the mind. Unless you are alluding that the military would take over and not hold elections and just run it themselves. I think it has been proven over and over again that they have no capacity/skill or real desire to do that, far more happy taking their cut from behind the shadows. Perhaps a coup would be an extremely short term solution, but it is just papering over the cracks, its about time the whole thing came to a head, after which hopefully cool heads will prevail.

Red Shirts ready to mobilise supporters into city streets

By English News

BANGKOK, Nov 20 – Red Shirt supporters will expand their rally in Bangkok, originally scheduled to end tonight, if the Constitution Court’s ruling today fails to appease them.

Thida Thavornseth, chairwoman of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), said the rally at Rajamangala Stadium is to monitor the court’s judgement on a charter amendment concerning electoral procedures and composition of the Senate.

A bill, calling for the election of all members of the Senate, with no appointed members as at present, was passed by Parliament, prompting the opposition Democrat Party to lodge a petition with the Constitution Court claiming that Parliament's action breaches Section 68 of the charter.

Mrs Thida said the Constitution review was approved by the national legislative body and the judicial branch should not intervene and block the action.

The three pillars of democracy – administrative, legislative and judicial branches – should not interfere with each other, said Mrs Thida.

She said Thailand will be in chaos if the Constitution Court dissolves the ruling Pheu Thai Party and revokes the political rights of 312 MPs and senators.

“We may mobilise the suporters (now at Rajamangala Stadium) instead of calling it off Wednesday night. Core leaders will hold a meeting if the court’s ruling is not in our favour. However, we will not pressure, threaten or assault the judges,” said Mrs Thida.

“The demonstrators will listen to only three core leaders - myself, Nattawut Saikua and Jatuporn Prompan. We assure that our fight will be peaceful.”

The UDD leaders went on stage to address to the demonstrators at Rajamangala Stadium last night without the usual video-linked speech by ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. (MCOT online news)

The headlines are so misleading and always stir up a lot of unneeded panic. Mobilize is always used to describe troop movement in regards to the army. We are talking about 2000 max protestors here. So ridiculous! Oh a d don't forget, their red shirts so they are now called a mob,

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Just to make an apolitical observation. In Thai-English a 'mob' has now come to mean just about any political gathering, however peaceful. It's no longer possible to equate the "Tinglish" 'mob' with the original meaning in the English-speaking world.

The best thing now is for anti-government demonstrators to pack up and quickly go home. Let the reds run the streets....and fight who? Surround constitutional court judges houses and do what exactly? The court's verdict is binding and PT should be breathing a sigh of relief they weren't banned for 5 years.

when you look at the picture please have a look....all the chairs are red but without people on it. So it can't be many.

Only 1500 turned up yesterday.

Just goes to show that this state of affairs is losing red support at an olympic standard speed.

Whatever happened to, 'we can mobilize 1 million red shirt protesters'?

Maybe that:

Abhisit and Suthep are murder and must be tried at COURT.

Lets amnesty them so our leader can come back

Wait they are against the amnesty.....

We red shirts are against the amnesty

But wait we don't vote against it, because blabla

We need to protect the government against the democrat murders who don't want to get amnesty

Lets protest against the court.....

caused a few red shirts to be confused for what or against what they are now wacko.png.pagespeed.ce.jGW10VtQsI.png also the dear lady can't help as she is on a shopping trip to Singapore today.

And some even get doubts about their leadership w00t.gif . There are a few reports about reds that changed sides (is that treason?).

Yingluck is in Singapore!!!!!! Why?

Sent from my phone with the app thingy.

Well, if you were her, wouldn't you want to distance yourself too ?

Not all bad news then. At least they weren't all just blowing noisy whistles with hot air.

All in all a compromise.

The amnesty bill ruled unconstitutional but none of the normal regulatory punishment to those who pushed it through.

It wasn't the amnesty bill that was ruled unconstitutional. It was a bill to change the senate to all elected senators.

The amnesty bill is still in it's little box waiting for 170 (odd) more days for something to happen to it.
