Hello Ajarns. Anyone employed in a Thai Government School getting the straight scoop on the December holidays? I ask specifically about December 5th, 10th, and the New Year. I've asked the Thai staff where I teach and am told the director hasn't decided yet, accompanied by looks of concern why I'm asking. I thought these dates were set by the Thai Government? In any event, anyone who has specific information especially regarding December 30th through January 1st(A Monday to Wednesday) please post. December 5th is a Thursday(so is Friday also a holiday?) and the 10th is a Tuesday so is the 9th, Monday, also a holiday, in the past? I'm new to all this last second holiday planning but with Air Asia keeping fares in check I guess I can function.

I'm sure that the public holiday is Dec5 and Dec10 of every year. But for New Year's holiday it's all depends on the government. This year it was officially announced(in Thai language)on 15 of Oct that they would let us spent 5 days holiday from 28 of Dec - 1 Jan.

Why are you asking here/ If you are working at the school, the obvious place to ask would be the people that employ you, the school!

Thanks for all the replies. The above seems to be correct, "five days" over the New Year. It's strange how Thai people consider the Saturday and Sunday a "holiday" and say "five" instead of the actual, three days of holiday time but up to them. Their country, we remain only guests and for that matter, not always welcomed guests. The trend seems to be to go with Filipino's instead of "Westerners" as they are part of ACEAN and don't "complain".
