Hi all, I'm going to order a couple of reversing cameras soon but have got a bit confused re their night time abiltiy. I see some have inraread LED's but most do not and rely on low lux. I'm inclined to think a good low lux camera is the way to go as I reckon the reversing lights should give enough for the job..any one out there with experience on this please?

I'll also have to install a small monitor screen in my Chevy truck for this but as I'd also like to fit a camera to the front I wonder if thats possible using the same monitor (I guess I'll need a separate switch for the front).

Low lux camera works fine for me. Mine connected to the DVD player and comes on automatically when selecting reverse. Could connect front camera too but would need to switch source to display on DVD

Same here. I have a factory fitted reversing camera in my Isuzu MU7, which works on low lux and is directed to my Kenwood touch screen. There is more than enough lighting from the reversing lights for the camera to operate at night time. No issues in over 5 years. :)

Just a tip...htey installed the one on the vigo in the number plate housing. It means that the camera is protected but the sides of the housing limit the field of view. Make certain you mount it where the view is not obscured for each corner of the vehicle.

Thanks, thats sorted for me then. Am considering the monitor integrated in a rear view mirror type but will do more research on this before ordering.

Thanks Harry, another good point as I was thinking of fitting it in the number plate area, I'll have another look now under the rear step.

I would consider the water spraying up on wet roads. Maybe there is some mounting location, which is protected a bit? It should be easy to clean, too.

There is a reason they are mounted high.

Mine is under the bezel surround of the number plate and high enough to be protected from most road grime apart from dirty wet roads which can't be avoided. The fields of view is excellent and even though the number plate can be seen in the camera view, it doesn't interfere and gives me a good overall reversing perspective,
