Korean woman flees scene of Phuket prang
Eakkapop Thongtub

PHUKET: -- Police are looking for a Korean woman who crashed a car just after midnight this morning (November 25) and then fled after police arrived at the scene.

Pol Lt Kraisorn Boonprasob of Chalong Police received the call that a foreigner had crashed a car into a power pole on Soi Luang Por Chaem, opposite Baan Chalong school, and headed there with Tourist Police volunteer Garry Halpin.

They found the car still up against the power pole and a Korean woman – presumed to be the driver – who had received a bang on the forehead but was otherwise uninjured. She spoke no English or Thai, and when officers asked for her passport she refused to give it to them.

Instead of talking with them, she started talking on her mobile.

Checking inside the car, police found the registration document in the name of Mr Young Taek. As they were drawing a diagram of the accident, a car arrived and the woman, grabbing the insurance documents ran and jumped into the car, which sped away.

Mr Halpin found a video camera in the car, which he handed to police to see if it would help identify the woman. Officers then took the car to Chalong Police Station to pin down the details of the owner and hopefully, through him, locate her.

Could have been drinking, but more likely working illegally.

How on earth do you make connection in ''leaving the scene of an accident" with working illegally?

You know all those foreigners picking up their "friends" from the Phuket International Airport - guess what, they are not really their "friends." :) :)

There are quite a few expats here making a few baht on the side in the transport industry, mostly through word of mouth.

It's possible this women was the "meet and greet" for Korean tourists.

The Police were all were looking elsewhere while she made a call.

Then a car arrives, she grabbed her insurance papers (from the police?),

then gets into the car that showed up and pulled away. whistling.gif

Leaving only the information that cannot be traced back to her.blink.png

Just a fast learner of Thai accident behavior thumbsup.gif

Not at all, Koreans behave this way in South Korea also. They are HORRID drivers (though I hear the Chinese are worse). Honestly, they are WORSE (but getting better) than Thai drivers.

My driving experience with the Koreans and Thais is limited to 10 years and 15 years respectively.

Odd to say the least! And eh this tourist police volunteer's name crops up all to often! He is a well known local mover and shaker . And rumor or fact has it that he drinks copious amounts of tea....
